old west
Old West?
Perhaps a brand more like Old Cleveland would work better. Sometimes Dick Feagler will write an article about his grandpa the cop. Of course back then things were less formal and policemen less distant and well paid.

These thieves that shot the FBI agent seem to be the only thieves that Lakewood Police hasn't caught within the week. Remember the muggings behind the banks? they caught them quite fast. They caught the person that mugged the elderly lady by our office pretty fast too. And standoff on fry... the man had explosives that could blow up a 7 block radius and all that happened was some shattered windows from the SWAT team entering and taking care of business.
Lakewood officers are pretty busy. They can't watch over every corner, every block and every alley all the time. We would need to hire more officers to do that. My best friend wants to be a police officer, and he told me that of 500 police officers that applied, only four passed the testing and were hired. Being a police officer isn't the same as being security.
There's a reason our school guards are the way they are, they reflect the thug youth and talk on cellphones and talk to kids about drugs as if they're still in high school themselves. Being a police officer isn't easy, becoming one is even harder. At least we're not like Cleveland, cutting jobs of EMS squads and thinning out the coverage area day after day.
This happens all the time on the deck. people get so frustrated over one event and think our police force is bad. And then there's a standoff or a major event and police and swat take care of it in a professional and safe manner and everyone boasts. Then two months later it's back to trashing the cops. What are we, the hip hop generation?

At least for my part, candidates, or their proxies, who only offer negativity with no positive platform needn't bother to run. I become weary of campaigns which force us to choose between the lesser of two evils.I hope we do not have the summer of attacks and bad PR, just so someone can get elected.
Not that there anything wrong in identifying real problems and issues, but having identified them, offer a positive approach as to how they can be resolved, not just a finger pointing at another candidate.

WHOAAAAAAAA. I just used the "rims" comment to highlight a "thug" car's look. I'm talking about the 28 or 30s on a jacked up Pontiac Bonneville, for example.
And yes, it's profiling to a degree. The same profiling when I was 18 and had my car jacked up, cheater slicks, straight front axle, running a 327 fueler with a scoop sticking out of the hood, headers and glass packs. You can BET I had a more than a few stops and safety checks by the constables.
I never said the RIMS are bad !!! I WILL say that when the car is in the inside lane, 6 guys wearing the known attire, and while the house is shut tight, the knick knacks literally fall off the front window by the street, from the bass, I would say that MIGHT indicate, repeat MIGHT indicate there is something more than you playing your stereo from your Mini.
Easy Jim, I didn't wake up and suddenly become the anti-christ or Hitler's advisor, nor am I a racist.
All I'm trying to do here is cite what is happening, and if that's not right, then maybe I'm the one in my old ford that is wrong and should let the "other guy" care.
Geeze.

Ivor,
Not all security is as bad as you have seen. There are indeed some good security officers who have the police academy behind them, and are waiting for a job to open up, retired police officers, and there are a few companies that just don't hire anyone but well experienced and well trained persons.
I don't know what company has the school contract, but if they act unsatisfactorily, you should probably look at the company and question it's management. There are also routes to file complaints with the state, since all of the companies are controlled by the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Securitas!
the same ones that prowl Home Depot on 117th.
bahhhhh humbug.
there's a few that need to pull their pants up, ya know?
I didn't mean to tie that into my last post. I was just following up to one of dl's posts about how busy and efficient lakewood police really is.
The next time someone crazy barricades himself with explosive material and the SWAT team and police get rid of him without any collateral damage (like the past three times I recall) then everyone will be boasting again about how efficient LPD is.
My friend and I were talking about how the "thug" life preaches about not "snitchin" to the cops. If someone next door is murdered, don't talk to the cops because they're baddddd.
they teach their little kids that, so they're breeding violence while calling out the cops for not protecting their block.
it's like kicking someone in the shin, and having them kick you back, and then asking them why they kicked you?
doesn't make any sense if you ask me.

I would love to see a curfews of those below the age of 14 in Lakewood. Maybe even up the of age of 16. My teens have friends over all the time up unitl 10:30 - 11:00 PM. I'm surprised at how many of their parents will not come pick them up.
I just can't let them walk home, I usally end up taking most of them home. (I know I'm a sucker)
I think that the parents should be held accountable.
