Unbiased fast food review - nastiness found on W117

Post by DougHuntingdon »

I hadn't been in McGhettos on W117 (Lakewood side) in awhile, so I decided to give them another chance. Unfortunately, it may actually be getting worse. It makes the Tower City McDonalds look first class. There was no line, but it took a very long time for an order of three whole cheeseburgers and a fruit parfait. The cashier had her right hand sitting in a dirty bucket of water on the counter, and she kept putting it in there! I can't say I've ever seen that one before, and I thought I had seen it all. If it was any consolation, she shook her hand a little bit before taking the money and giving me change. One of the items I tried to order was an iced coffee, but I refused it after seeing her dirty nasty hand touch the inside of the lid before putting it on. I forgot to check to see if the fruit parfait was in the bag until I got outside (it wasn't). The cheeseburgers themselves were put together rather sloppily. I am not one who supports eminent domain, but if there ever was a good reason for it, this might be it.

So I then walked down to Wendy's on W117 (Cleveland side), which in comparison was like a 4 star restaurant. I almost fainted when the cashier asked how my day was. Service was good. I ordered a new Coke float to go, which was made very well for $1.99...better than some you might get at some of the presumptious joints further west of Lakewood.

In related neighborhood news, I see that most of the bank appears to be built on the former Cadillac by DeLorean site. As for Aldi's, it looks like they are still digging the hole. The new RTA station is not looking so hot, but what do you expect when they want it to mimic it surroundings, which consist of old dilapidated red/brown brick?

Good review Doug. "McGhettos". That's funny. :D Never heard that before.

That place is nasty. I've been there maybe three times in the last 8 years.

it is sad

It is always sad to visit the Tower City McDonalds. They have a very large crew working there, but it seems like the lines are moving slowly every time. But they have 1.00 coffee.

I agree with your review. The few times we ate there the order was wrong and something was missing. It happened twice at Wendy's too but at least they sent certificates when we called! I swear you have to take a dumb test to work there!!! Good thing we are giving up on fast food for the most part!!!

A couple years ago we went to Subway on 117th and the girl working there, who had the Nastiest attitude, had fake long nails and I watched her adjust her nose ring with them, hand someone cash, and then attempt to make my sandwich!!! I just looked at her and told her I lost my appetite and walked out. I called the owner who said "We are trying to get her to put on gloves". !!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what happened after that but I did call the health board
People have been known to die in hospitals because of the stuff that gets caught under those fake nails so FYI I wouldn't eat from anyone preparing food with them!!!

A little off topic from McGhetto's but... when I was a kid I used to ride the 55 bus down to Terminal Tower, then take (I think it was called) Van Aken rapid out to Shaker Heights to visit my friend Wally Griffith (Fred's son - they were neighbors). There's not a chance in hell I'd let my kids do that today!

Yes, I have to agree about McGhettos. While I rarely ever eat fast food, I've always been amazed at how disgusting that particular McDonalds is.

In 88 through 89 I would walk or bike Madison down to west 101st. There was a Burger King along the way. It was pretty good back then. It is easy to imagine it being less-good today.

And on the westside of town...

The Taco Bell across from the library, either they can't make change or don't want to. I have had to go back to get the correct change at least twice.

The McDonalds on Sloane, everytime I have been in there it seems dirty, yuk!

Even the Friendly's on Center Ridge seems white trashish to me.
