WiFi Corridor in Lakewood?

I'm surprised there isn't more open WiFi here in Lakewood. Other than the regular spots that come to mind (Bela Dubby, the Library, Winking Lizard, Phoenix, etc), there aren't too many places that offer free WiFi.

Maybe if we got a bunch of FON routers that would change...the FON community is definitely growing. Despite that some ISPs don't allow sharing of bandwidth, there are some here in the states that are FON-friendly, like Speakeasy.net and a few others.

I think you forgot one of the community leaders in Lakewood for WiFi. The LPL provides free WiFi at both its locations, with the Madison Branch also servicing the Madison Park area.

I did mention the library.

I'd like the city to be one giant 'wifi cloud'. I think that FON can help this happen. Other cities like Dallas, New York, etc have a large FON community. A few ISPs support the movement as well, such as Speakeasy.net.

It is amazing a community this densely populated does not have more wifi. While FON is interesting, it seems like we need something coming from an ISP or a major player in Lakewood like Kiwanis, the Masons, or the Chamber of Commerce. I think wifi would benefit us a lot more than this Lightspeed boondoggle.

I would not hold my breath for city hall to get it done, although it may lead to efficiencies within the city's own departments. You could have built-in laptops on all the Flintstone vehicles as they do the trash runs.

Hmm...last time I checked, my AP is on the map. Check by the Madison Library Branch.

Then again, the mapping system is known to be wonky.

FON is known for partnering with ISPs. The founder of FON also founded the #2 ISP in Spain. FON also has investments from Skype, Google, and others, so big things are bound to come. For instance, anyone with a Skype Wifi handset can make free calls at any FON hotspot.
