Citistat - what is the latest?

Post by DougHuntingdon »

dl meckes mentioned in another thread that Citistat is not something that gets done in 30 days, apparently to the surprise of many.

I do not have high expectations, but I just want to know when full implementation will be complete, if anyone has that answer. Initially I heard or read 2008. Are we still on track?

My research indicates Denis Lightspeed Dunn introduced Citistat in 2004. Per an April 2006 press release, it "began" in August 2005. As of April 2006, 4 departments were identified for preliminary testing/implementation.

A January 2007 press released indicates a few more departments will be joining. Depending how you count, the city has rougly 20 departments. The "department" layout on the city's own website is rather ambiguous.

The January 2007 press release also credits citistat for doing some rather obvious-sounding tasks that apparently have left the city previously dumbfounded for decades. Example:
"Small solutions have yielded big efficiency gains as some perennial problems with field communications have been solved through the purchase of handheld radios for inspectors."
Further statements, such as the comments about monthly attendance reports, give the impression that the city previously had not used any computer software.

If the city is having major problems implementing Citistat on schedule, maybe we need to hire Dunn away from AT&T as a consultant. He can be the liaison between the city and Govstat, the company hired by the city to implement Citistat.
