We've lost a good one

Post by Jeff Endress »

Observers

With sadness I must report that Jim Mecredy, a stalwart of the Lakewood Kiwanis, the Boy Scouts of America and particularly Lakewood Presbyterian Church, Troop 115 passed away over the weekend.

I will always remember with fondness, evenings spent around around campfires with Mr. Mecredy (even as an adult, I never thought to refer to him as Jim) listening to his stories and his interest in passing on life's lessons to the members of the troop.

He will be missed and our prayers go out to his wife and family.

A sad day for sure.

I've known Mr. Mecredy since I was a Cub Scout and my older brothers were Boy Scouts. If you want to know what a giver to the community is, he defined it.

As a friend and fellow Scouter, my heart and prayers are extended to Jim's family. His son and I were in the LHS drum line together too.

I will never forget Jim's dedication to his family, his community, and to the world of Scouting. His continued dedication to young people was, and is, an inspiration to all of us who knew him.

The arrangements for Mr. Mecredy's service have been made. There will be a memorial service for Mr. Mecredy at Lakewood Presbyterian Church this Saturday at 2:00. There will be no other services, no viewing. If you are able to attend, please do so.

We have indeed lost a good one. Jim defined community service. Much of what is important and valuable in my life today I learned through his example over the 30-odd years I have known him. One of the main reasons I found the recent thread critical of Scouting so dismaying is that those of us involved with Scouts under Jim's leadership know how far-removed our experience was from the negatives ascribed to the program. Jim's impact on others was profound.
