Does anyone know of a place to get shoes repaired/polished in Lakewood?
Thanks,

Charyn--- There's an excellent shop on Madison between Elmwood and Victoria on the Norh side. It's been there since the late 1950's. Slavko Pizir and his wife came over from Yugoslavia to start a new life here.
Unfortunately, Slavko died 20 years ago but his wife carries on the business.
(Slavko was my first wrestling coach at Lakewood Y)

I'll vouch for the shopkeeper's honesty. I just took my shoes to get resoled and she told me she could charge me but it wouldn't be worth it since the shoe type was a modern make with too many synthetics. She referred me to an American-made brand with full leather and high quality to get for the next time.
Struck me as nice to get a straight answer, even when she might have benefited from telling me something different.

Pizir’s provides fine leather work for those who can afford to go beyond the throw-away price point of global commodities. Invest in a good shoe. While by no means cheap, the cost of local repairs by leather craftsmen can be easily justified on several levels.
Last year I think I paid $75 or $80 for soles and heels for men’s leather shoes.
I even bought a pair of shoe laces there manufactured in the United States.
It's a value system worthy of support.

If you need a new pair and are traveling east, selection at Reyers in PA can't be beat (www.reyers.com). They have everything from $29 tennis shoes to Bruno Magli (of OJ Simpson fame) to $1100 crocodiles, including shoes which could be repaired at that shop on Madison, I am sure.
