Support Your Local Farmer through the Lakewood Earth And Food Community’s C.S.A. Initiative: Lakewood Public Library 3/10


The Lakewood Earth And Food Community is looking for earth and food loving Lakewoodites. The L.E.A.F. Community is bringing people together who wish to buy local, healthy food, economize, preserve the environment and beautify the city while building a deeper sense of community. The L.E.A.F. Community is working to realize four basic initiatives; community gardening, bulk buying, soil building, and building relationships with local farmers through participation in Community Supported Agriculture (C.S.A.) programs.


On Saturday March 10th, in the Lakewood Public Library Auditorium, C.S.A. options will be explained by producers and explored by interested citizens and restaurants. Community Supported Agriculture provides an alternative form of food purchasing that promotes health and the local economy while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and factory farms. Weekly share bags will be delivered directly from the farm to a pick-up location right here in Lakewood. Representatives from two C.S.A. providers, Covered Bridges Gardens and City Fresh, will present their programs and take questions from the audience. Local restaurant owners and chefs are encouraged to attend a special meeting at 2:30 pm to learn how they can benefit from buying local food with the L.E.A.F. Community. The presentation for the general public will take place between 3:30 to 5:30.

I'm not sure what day the weekly winter share bags are collected from City Fresh. Orders need to be placed by Friday on a weekly basis.

I defer to Chris on this one.


As for the summer drop station and day, this information has not been hammered down yet.

We will keep everyone posted.

The winter share bag that you ordered was more of an experimental one-time order. We can order again if there is sufficient interest. How was the produce that you received?
Once people have signed up for either Covered Bridge or City Fresh, they will receive the weekly share bags throughout the growing season. City Fresh will also offer Winter share bags next year. I'm not sure if Covered Bridge will do the same, but participating in Covered Bridge would not exclude you from ordering City Fresh share bags in the winter.

Sign me up, the bag was great. Deb loved everything, which means we all were happy. As you might have noticed, my wife is an excellent cook.

Keep me posted, my problem is I am all over the place now as we prepare to grow the Observer Project.

I was sorry I sat on the sidelines last year.

Thanks to the LO for placing the LEAF Community on the coveted front page.

Those who are interested in having input in the planting process for the upcoming season will need to attend this Satuday's meeting.

As one wise Observer says, the Love Train is leaving the station....

Come to the meeting, hang with the farmers. Get to know the man behind the hand that feeds you.

It will be informal, and highly informative.
