BEER ENGINE Who approved this sign?
I have nothing against this restaurant -- in fact, I think a Micro-Brewery is a great idea at this location. BUT, who approved this sign? This sign makes the CANNABIS CONNECTION right down the street look conservative. "BREWERY, BOOZE, BURGERS"???!!! Not enough room on the sign for BROADS? Come on, who approved this sign? This looks bad.

Yea too bad there's not enough room for "broads" on there as we could use a few places with some interesting women
I didn't notice that place the last time I was down Madison...I think 15315 the former Dear Martin's and sinking Titantic. I see something here on the state's website: http://www.liquorcontrol.ohio.gov/newproc.txt
Looks like the city approved something last summer: http://www.ci.lakewood.oh.us/pdf/Minutes2006-0703.pdf (page 7)
We all know there is a bar shortage in Lakewood...good thing a new place is popping up. Nothing *#$(#*&$'s me off more than when I have to walk past more than two storefronts to get drunk.
btw I know Chagrin Falls would not tolerate this. Someone tried to open up a joint there with "booze" in the sign. They were made to change it to "brews."
As far as Cannabis Connection, at least they came up with a classy name. They could have called it Weedeater's or something. Doug

I agree. I don't understand the BEER ENGINE thing either. Usually, mixing engines and beers is a bad (and illegal) idea.c. dawson wrote:Why not just Buckye Brewing? Why the whole "Beer Engine" thing, which frankly, sounds idiotic. What the heck's a Beer Engine?
Or better yet, call it the Lakewood Brewery or something to give it some local flair.
Dumb sign. Hope their food and beer is better than this!
A really stupid sign to have right down the street from the new school.

Did they pay someone to design that sign? If so, I'd ask for a refund.
The company name is lost in small letters and the idea that they sell beer is really overdone: brewing, beer, booze...OK, we get it already!
As I said, I couldn't bring myself to bother to try their offerings with a welcome like that, even though I'm fond of a good beer.

I'm not a fan of the sign either, but let's not judge a book by it's cover. Maybe it'll have great food and beer. Heck, maybe the owner hates the sign too, but just wanted to have something up for the opening. Give it a try and then you can crucify the owner's taste.

Sentence first, trial afterwords.
For the record, I don't like it either The AARB hasn't approved it yet. I suppose if anyone showed up to the meeting and voiced an opinion the owner might change it.

I don't care if they have good food or bad food.Jason Stewart wrote:I'm not a fan of the sign either, but let's not judge a book by it's cover. Maybe it'll have great food and beer. The sign has got to go.

Thanks Bill. I just looked on the city website and the AARB meeting is on March 12th at 7 pm. Hopefully the sign will be rejected as it is not only tacky but I think having "BOOZE" up in lights in inappropriate for a community. For the record, I don't like it either The AARB hasn't approved it yet. So, let me get this right....
A new business wants to invest in Lakewood. Not just another bar, but a brew pub with a pretty decent reputation for good craft beers. And more than a bar, a decent restaurant ala Rocky River Brewery or the Brew Kettle. They choose to call their enterprise "Beer Engine"
http://www.buckeyebrewing.com/Page1.html
Unlike the the wonderful signage for Burger King, Taco Bell and Payday check cashing services, we take umbridge at the owner's signage concept.
Where are the secondhand shops and resales when we need them!
Let's run the SOB out of town. How dare he take a vacant store front, bring in a new restaurant, some jobs and revenues and put up a sign that offends our civic sensibilities! No....I'm with you guys....I'm going to Boycott this one! Call City Hall. Maybe with enough pressure we can build some hurdles so the place NEVER opens!
Gotta run, off to Northcoast Mattress for their going out of business sale then to someplace with a nice sign for lunch....maybe Mr. Hero....

How can a business owner in Lakewood erect a sign like that without prior approval? If the sign has not been approved, the owner should be forced to take it down pending approval.Danielle Masters wrote:Thanks Bill. If you're looking for nice signs - check out the many FOR SALE signs, conveniently located in homeowner's front yards throughout Lakewood.

Yeah Rick....They go hand in glove with all the empty store fronts with for rent signs. If you're looking for nice signs - check out the many FOR SALE signs, conveniently located in homeowner's front yards.
It's a good thing to be focused on a "beer engine".....that way we don't have to look at the "economic engine".
