The Lakewood Historical Society continues to work with members of City Council , the City Administration, Hall family descendents and the current owner to devise a plan to move the Mathew Hall house to a safer location. A site plan has been created. A rendering is in the process and estimates for moving and restoration have been gathered. The Society received many generous pledges of financial support, but plans for raising the remainder of the funds necessary to move the house can not be implemented until a formal agreement is signed by all parties. Unfortunately, this has not happened.
The current plan for the Hall House is to move it to private property owned by a Hall descendent just east of Edwards Park. The descendent would assume ownership of the house and, after historically sympathetic renovations, use it as a residential rental property. The Hall House is in good condition with no violations. It is structurally sound.
During the past year, hundreds of Lakewood citizens have expressed their concern for the Mathew Hall house and for the architectural heritage of our community. The Lakewood Historical Society will continue to encourage all the parties involved to agree to a plan to move the house. We hope that a decision will be made soon.
