Citistat as a Waste of Time and Money

Post by Bill Call »

I read in the Sunpost that the City is busy "implementing" the Citistat program. The article was very vague (in the tradition of the Sun Post) about what actually was being done to implement the Citistat program.

The article made clear that the City did not anticipate any cost savings or operating efficiencies as a result of the program. I find it curious that Lakewood would seem to be the only city that I am aware of that does not expect any cost savings from this program. Other cities have saved millions. Why are we different?

The foundation of a successful Citistat program is a commitment to transparency and accountability. It seems the City wants the propaganda value of the "Program" without actually committing to the program.

I am now fully convinced that Mayor Tom George has chosen to manage the decline of the City and not its regeneration. The whole administration seems to be intent on protecting the status quo. One City official told me that a common response to a new idea is "The employees are not going to like thaaat."

That is unacceptable.

Bill--We are already reaping the benefits of a true, two newspaper town because if you read the most recent City Council article you would have gotten a completely different take on CitiStat.

Draw your own conclusions, but the article in the recent Sun was almost word for word what was broadcast/published a few months ago which was almost word for word what was broadcast/published a few months before that. My favorite part is where it mentions "at least another year" before more departments are moved on, or something to that effect.

PS Has the part time college intern whipped the entire city into shape and energized the whole Citistat program???
