Lakewood churches

Does Lakewood have any traditional, conservative Protestant churches

i.e. ones that do not fly rainbow flags, do not perform gay marriages, do not have drums and electronic guitars, are not nondenominational, sing more hymns than "modern" songs by Amy Grant, no ufo's, no tongues, etc.

OR do you have to go to Rocky River or Westlake?

I'm not bashing anyone's beliefs.

I will take a shot at this, maybe the Baptist Church on Detroit opposite the Westerly.

In a search to be profitable, I would have to agree that "churches" have sunk to all time lows. When eternal salvation, peace, and happiness isn't enough to sell the product, I cannot see how Amy Grant helps.

Reminds me of a restaurant losing business. They panic, cut back on portions, then quality, then go out of business. So many churches are run like a business, not a house of hope and salvation. We awarded them tax-deductible status, so they could concentrate on their work at hand.

I am not sure you will find it any better out west. I think your key is to go east. Southern Baptist still preach fire and brimstone.

This year while looking at different events to put on, I asked about having a real Tent Revival at Lakewood Park. It met with some resistance, so we took it off the schedule. I would love to try to get one next year.

You may also want to investigate a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod church. There are several in Lakewood, including the one next to the library.

Doug - Lakewood Baptist Church would not fit that bill. LBC has a contemporary service - guitars and drums and modern songs. You are looking for Cleveland Baptist on Tiedemann. I'm going to assume that your comments about a rainbow flag and gay marriage mean that you are looking for a highly conservative group. LBC is an American Baptist Church (moderate) while Cleveland Baptist is an Independent Baptist (highly conservative). I don't know of a comparable donomination represented in Lakewood. There are several small, non denominational, highly conservative groups meeting in Lakewood. They generally meet during non traditional church hours because they may be using a conventional church building.

Doug does bring up a good point.

I think it would be great for the local churches to be able to post their "audience" and schedule. I know some churches have traditional and more contemporary services to serve different audiences. You can have the same faith and differ in your choice of music - Amy Grant or Back.

Maybe this could be posted under the church area. Seems like a brouchure on this should be in the welcome wagon packet for new residents or potential residents.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I also found the library's website has some good information covering the churches in Lakewood. It is interesting how some of the denominations came into being (e.g. Presbyterian Church-USA and Presbyterian Church-America), how some denominations have no representation while others have several, etc.

My experience has been that most everyone just reads one or both of the top two message sections on here (General and Global). If I posted originally in the church section, it might be a month before anyone even notices it is there. If I post something in technology, maybe it gets 3 views, and 5 months later someone responds. So it made sense imo for all the posts by others on Lightspeed to be in the general forum rather than the technology forum. It also would be cumbersome to read through 10 different sections everytime you came to the Observation Deck. I realize visits are increasing, but it's not like we get the kind of traffic a forum like neowin.net gets. I admit once in awhile I used to view only at Lakewood Insect, but now you have to register for that, too. How fun is that?

I'd say it was perfectly natural to ask the question you asked where you asked it.

Were I church shopping, I'd have done the same thing.
