Section 8 tenant looking to rent in Lakewood

Hi, I have a friend with a section 8 voucher looking for a good place to rent in Lakewood. She prefers something on the gold coast but is open to other options. After living on Lakewood's east end for about 20 years, she is understandably getting tired of living near the charming Hidden Village (the place that wants to house all the teenage felons).

Note: she is section 8 due to medical reasons (physical not mental/psychological). She is not the stereotypical section 8 tenant that causes trouble. In fact, the last thing she did to cause any alarm was when she hosted a party, featuring tiki torches, one bonechilling day in the 1980s. Yes, Lakewood's Finest as well as two LFD ladder trucks were summoned to the scene. A passerby was concerned that the tiki torches might set the snow on fire. However, there were no arrests or charges filed.

I have to think Lakewood has a list of Section 8 units. I know the aprtments at the end of Detroit take Section 8. What is she looking for?

Call EDEN Inc. at (216) 961-9690. They help with this sort of thing all over the West Side and I would assume Lakewood would be no different. I am willing to bet they have a handy list of units.

Also, I can't verify how well this site works or doesn't work, but this is supposed to be able to list available apartments in a chosen area with the ability to search for specific price ranges as well as include Section 8 status. Check it out and if it works, I would love to know:

Thanks Jim and Phil. I asked her for some more specifics. She is looking for 1-2 bedroom around 800 sq ft under $800 a month on the gold coast, although sometimes you don't always get what you want. I think the Berkshire condos would be a good fit. Despite the proliferation of section 8, most landlords still don't take it.

I know some places she could get a nice half of a house for that.

I think she could do better at the Lake House, or the first two building in from W117. Might even get a two bedroom at the second one.
