I am seeking advice on moving to Lakewood. My husband and I currently rent in Cleve. Hts. and are looking to buy a house next Spring. We are in full research mode as to where we want to "settle". We love the Hts., and thought we would buy here, but as of late we are opening up our minds to other areas.

Thanks.

Jen,
I lived in Lakewood for 20 years before a job change took me south. During the time I lived in Lakewood, I worked at Case and had many, many co-workers who lived in the heights, particularly Cleveland Heights. I will predict that if you "love the Hts.", you will adore or worship Lakewood.
Whatever Cleveland Heights has can be found in greater quanity in Lakewood except for maybe crime.
I sometimes laughed and often sympathized with the complaints of my poor co-workers who live in Cleveland Heights. Move to Lakewood. Find a good house on a nice street and in 18 months you'll be saying "I can't believe we liked it so well in that east side hell-hole."

If I were to move back to Cuyahoga County, I wouldn't consider living anywhere else than Lakewood. I've been in Virginia almost two years, and I look at this forum regularly. That ought to tell you something right there.

Just wanted to thank each of you that responded. My husband and I went exploring in Lakewood today. In short, we love it. :D
We had lunch at Sullivan's, than walked it off by exploring a few streets around there....specifically Grace and Cohasset. We even went to an open house on Grace and met the lovely owners of a beautiful Victorian. If only we weren't stuck in a lease until March! We walked some more and found that... it's true...everyone sitting on their front porches relaxing, waving to us, everyone so friendly.
We then got back in the car and drove all around: West on Madison to Riverside, then East on Detroit, then zig zagged all around on side streets. We parked at Lakewood park and strolled down to the lake. Beautiful! We were very impressed with the city and are looking forward to exploring more over the next several months!

Glad you had fun in your exploration.

Perhaps you & your DH (dear husband) will come back and enjoy some of Lakewood life. If you like Victorians, you'll also probably enjoy some of the antique stores we have here. (Check western Detroit Ave.)

Keep an eye on the Events Calendar at
http://lakewoodobserver.com
and you'll see how many activities you may become involved in.

Take a look at
http://www.ci.lakewood.oh.us/dept_planning_cdbg.html
because you'll learn that the city has some good deals for both first time home buyers and home owners.

Lakewood is known (at least to Lakewoodites) as the "City of Homes."

I hope you'll find yours here.

Everyone could review restaurants/taverns/coffeeshops or any other place they eat, so that when someone's curious about trying a place, they can check out the forum and see if anyone's reviewed it yet.s

And if we do not have a review we would encourage anyone to write it and submit it.
