police and the creative class
People move to the suburbs to get away from the police. If Lakewood got rid of its police, it would attract the Creative Class here. They would set up giant office buildings to employ many white collar workers making at least 60 grand a year. Their job would be contracting for a think tank to create new reasons we shouldn't pay taxes and also vote for politicians that want to raise government spending on foreign entanglements.

Of course, that's only true until Mr. Creative meets Miss Creative and they fall in love and have a big Creative Wedding and start having Little Creative Babies. Then they're afraid that the Big Bad Wolf will steal the Little Creative Babies or make them take drugs and have sex or maybe just blow them up.
Then they want LOTS of police around, and politicians, too, who will keep them safe from people who want to do those things.
And of course, the Little Creative Babies grow up and take drugs and have sex anyway, and then THEY complain about the police that their parents insisted on.
Life just works that way.

Every year I get a little closer to being a conservative.

It can happen Jim. At least it adds another view to consider, right?

If that was the case, he would have been a conservative 20 years go (or longer!). Maybe business is booming for Jim? I always hear the best way to create a Conservative and/or Repubican (since there is a question if they are one and the same any more) is get them rich!

Uh,
Hmmm. I always thought it was from actually questioning what could be attributed as liberal "logic." Or critical thinking in general.
For instance how does one get on the receiving end of being gotten rich?

Must be the old "life is a lottery" from the Gephardt days? I've heard of people earning their way to prosperity and some even becoming rich. The Kennedy's have done quite well, as has George Sorros, but I wouldn't draw any conclusions about wealth and being conservative (as lovely a stereotype as that is played out by the old media;)

No it is not the rap. I think you would be amazed at the old Ipod, classical, rap, country western, bluegrass, punk, soul, jazz, blues, rock, spoken word, comedy, swing, showtunes, jaz, world music even opera. In heavy play this week; The Meat Purveyors (new bluegrass), The Black Keys(akron rock), Les Miserables (special edition) and Kinks Soap Opera.
I think it is just as you acquire, you tend to want to protect. As you work hard through the free market system you begin to want to protect it. My only real problem with real conservatives is that they tend to forget those that fall through the cracks. I will never forget needing unemployment, living in basements, and the hard times.
FWIW
