To everyone that showed up today for the annual but highly illegal railroad track clean-up, Thank you.
We had a group that numbered about 20 for the second year. About 35 bags of trash were picked up, and a good time was had by all.
The group was comprised of members from the FreeTimes, The Library, H20, PTA, The Lakewood Observer, and Phoenix Coffee.
This was started when some residents called the railroad to clean up the track, and they stated they would prefer to keep it unsafe as it stops people from walking on the property. When the city was called, they said they could not do it as it was private property.
At that time Michael Gill and Bob Bond, two of Lakewood's finest residents took it upon themselves to break the law and clean up the area.I was happy to join them last year, and this year was even more fun.
Thanks again to everyone.
.
Thank you

Thanks to those who cleaned up the railroad tracks.
I would have liked to volunteer for this but did not know it was happening. I vaguely remember hearing about it last year. Maybe it was on a calendar on this site or elsewhere that I did not see. I did notice that the volunteer message board has had no new posts since November, 2005.
I don't understand why the private owner of the property, the railroad or whomever, cannot be cited for keeping all that trash.

I agree with keeping it clean, but they have their reasons(cost). I would have to think it would fall into the same category as the air conditioner on Lakewood Center North, cheaper to pay the fine that fix it.
It does add to the ambiance of the event. Really good civic minded people, that are active in many positive programs for Lakewood and the county, meeting in secret over Phoenix Coffee, and Dougboy/Doughnut Pantry food, sneaking out at the crack of dawn to commit potential crimes in an effort to keep their city safe and clean.
Your name and email will be added to the list.
The message will read, "We ride at dawn..."

Some of the people that risked the weekend in the joint to keep this city clean. Names were witheld to protect the innocent.
