Would you allow your child to be subject to random drug testing in the schools?

I miss "Just Say No, Thank You."

:(

I don't know if it is Big Brother, though. Big Brother was secret and peeking in your windows at night when you least expect it. This is out in the open and asking you to pee in a cup. It is embarrasing, ineffective and probably costly (and mostly unfunded by the look of it...$15 million for the entire country??). In other words, a typical government program.

If these tactics really worked, why don't they do random breathalizer tests as people leave bars and step into cars? Or national random drug testing of all adults as illegal narcotics listed in the article are just as illegal for adults. I think giving parents and schools more tools for teaching will do a better job than random testing. Ugh.

we already have random drug dog searches about once a month and they seem to be VERY effective, although one student got their locker broken into after a dog went crazy over the students sandwich!

actual testing is taking it a bit too far, although i would do it if i was told to.

Big Brother drug testing

Post by Bill Koltiska »

We should not drug test in schools. If there is a problem then Law Enforcement should be notified. You have city and County Narcotics units. If it is bigger then that, then DEA is necessary. They have the knowledge to investigate, arrest and prosecute the individuals.
There is plenty of money already spent on drug enforcement. There are plenty of laws, plenty of rehab programs. Urinating in a cup won't solve the problem. Besides, different medications, foods and vitamins show positive for drug abuse. If you know of a specific problem or individuals, contact the County Sheriffs' Dept. Narcotics or Detective Bureau.

For a problem, consult with local law enforcement, if that doesn't work, see the County Sheriffs' Dept. I think the need is to apply pressure to Law Enforcement, not more programs.
