Stephen, I predict that prosecutors are doing as you have suggested in assessing former activities in which DiStasio and Nolan had involved themselves. Actually, I'm quite confident that they aren't leaving "stones" un-turned. However, Nolan is not a co-defendent and, for an obvious, reason (his demise), he didn't face charges. I don't know what effect, if any, Nolan's life and his former interests (for lack of a better term) might have on DiStasio's trial.

I did present - to the DA's office - much of what the two penned and had detailed on-line (prior to when DiStasio's trail hit a wall on my end). That is the result of his move (to residing with Nolan) and the switch in his on-line nic (nickname).

By his own accounts, DiStasio's alleged criminal conduct pre-dates the crimes for which he stands accused. He was age 16 when his interest in boys advanced from thought to action, and that is what distinguishes calling oneself a pedophile (as DiStasio had defined himself) to being a molester. I had confronted him about that incident, and he replied that he never denied the crime, and that he was not denying it when he wrote about it.

For now, Jim, I'll refrain for going into the details of what DiStasio had involved himself in - and with whom. I'd hate like heck to potentially give any others (his peer pedophiles) a heads-up. That they do not know what possible impact this case may have on their own lives is better. In other words: Let 'em squirm and sweat .

The following is relevant to cases which have been adjudicated...

The case you alluded to, Jim, was in KY's jurisdiction, though the man currently incarcerated was extradited from OH - following a failed suicide attempt in a motel room (OH). Unless one goes through media archives, and perhaps does an advanced search, most reports are not openly accessible.

During the time-frame when pedophiles were apprising one another of the homicide (execution style), they also took measures to self-protect - their own interests and one another - including DiStasio, who wrote me and admitted having lied to police. (He lied then, which may lead to wonder whether he will lie at trial time.)

The case was one in which Robert Molloy - of Louisville - had murdered a young man he originally "met" via IRC when the deceased (Toby Antone) was a minor-age male. With promises of a college education, Molloy lured Antone from FL to KY (details that were discerned by officers and reported by media) and had introduced Antone to the pedo network in which he was deeply entrenched.

Not long before acting so violently against Antone, Molloy exhibited behaviors similar to those of other pedos: He penned what some read as a rather prophetic message entitled: "Before the Fall." One of the most shocking aspects of that case - for me - was learning that Molloy had used the same type weapon he had also written about - again, on-line and accessible for all to see at that time. I didn't know Molloy's or Antone's legal names, and Molloy had not made any admissions prior to the murder that warranted reporting. Knowing that, I didn't sit back and just read. I challenged Molloy, and others (his peers) to tone it down because I could see how things could spiral out of control, which is precisely what ended up happening - with time . Had I known that Molloy was mapping a murder in his mind, when writing about weapons, I would have reported what I (and others) had been monitoring. Not being psychic, I was at a disadvantage. He had not threatened Antone; his messages were directed to another pedo. whom is also incarcerated in ID - for charges unrelated to the murder of Antone - Dennis Michael Mintun (formerly on NAMBLA's steering committee).

Molloy, Antone, Mintun, and DiStasio (leaving Nolan out of it since he can't defend himself and not knowing if he will factor into the prosecution's case against DiStasio) were all members of the same pedo. network.

It would be nice to be able to relate everything known about DiStasio. However, I'd really like to see him convicted and to see how the prosecution presents its case before relaying more.

Now that it appears that the trial is set to commence October 31, 2006, it's also granted additional time to send the remaining data to the DA's office. It took a couple of weeks to compile multiple-pounds of data - solely focusing on DiStasio and Nolan. Wanting that in the DA's office prior to February 6, I concentrated on the most telling and pressing. I mean, we are talking about a trail that started in the 90s. Too many pedos, and it seems and totally feels, too little time .

P.S.: If I recall correctly, DiStasio filed for some type of remuneration. Uhhh, he wanted compensation??? Wonder if I can submit a bill to him for costs entailed in having torn out an obturator nerve while going through tons of files and all the refuse he wrote. Now, there's a thought :D.

Jim, you had asked: "Anne what other cases have you worked?"

Pedo. or non-pedo? :)

Let's see, and I'll do this from memory:

Frank Rey Lucero, Jr., Salt Lake City, UT. His current residence is the jail :D. Mmmm-mmm, good; he gets plenty of bologna.

Not in any order or chronology, a few of the other perv cases - with outcomes positive toward society, include: Melford Ray Willis (one of my first), David J. Todeschini, David Nonemaker, Andrew Smith, Andrew Carter, Walter Davis, Robert Molloy, etc. In addition: Curley v. NAMBLA (civil case).

Among missing children/adults endangered and/or at-risk cases:

Recovered Safely 12.30.98
Sandeep (Sandy) Singh: Age 15

Recovered Safely 04.09.98
Justin Scott Gerst: Age 17

Found Alive 07.19.98
Hiter Beatrice Shockley: Age 66

Found Alive 07.10.98
Timothy Alan Nugent: Age 36

Home Safe 03.12.98
Sonia Brooke Olson: Age 13

Home Safe 01.29.98
Elisabel Gallegos & Dulce Del Real

The first will be the one I always remember the best; it was the abduction of the Miller twins, who were taken to the Dominican Republic. A SWAT team exported itself to the D.R., sealed off the border to Haiti, pulled over abductor-father, and waved an uzi at him. It was reported that he piddled in his pants (trying to say it politely). The children were reunited with their mother, whom had been searching for them for several months.

For some reason, when calling the NCMEC, it mis-informed that they had no such children listed as abducted after a PI (Charlotte Blasier) did a conference call so that I could give the details received in an E-mail tip. And, too, 4 other children's protection/advocacy agencies did not act on the tip. My group was the 5th contacted and we responded immediately.

We didn't believe the NCMEC and pursued through the law enforcement in the jurisdiction where the children had been reported missing.

I received the call from an officer - while celebrating my birthday - that the children were alive and that the plane had landed in Atlanta, GA. (I had asked officers not to call me if the outcome was not as so many were hoping; I just couldn't bear the thought of that heartbreak.) Next call was from America's Most Wanted, seeking an interview. I deferred and asked officers to speak for me; I just did not want to say anything that might endanger the life of the tipster; officers feared for her safety.

Not wanting to promote my group, I do, however, want to be sure that law enforcement is aware of this standing offer:

(An officer kindly drafted the text on the page cited.)

We don't seek to profit from children's pain or efforts to protect children.

Due to spam, the hosting ISP had to wipe out 375 MBs of mail - jamming the servers and slowing down the ISP - and close down all mail boxes (with my consent) except for mine: anne@thecpac(dot)com.

My dear friend and colleague, Jan McMahan, Director of http://www.opaat.org - kindly suggested that I take a look at the update provided at the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts docket respective of the case being presented against DiStasio. The docket has been updated.

(I've shared her name with her total thumbs-up, since she is also following the case, having done so much work monitoring him and Nolan previously; she's also following the posts here).

This is how the Docket currently reads:

02/06/2006 02/10/2006 N/A AX PRETRIAL HELD

02/06/2006 02/10/2006 N/A JE PRETRIAL HELD 02/06/2006. PRETRIAL CONTINUED TO 02/21/2006 AT 09:00 AM AT THE REQUEST OF DEFENDANT. DISCOVERY ONGOING. NEW TRIAL DATE TO BE CHOSEN ON 02-21-06 PRETRIAL DATE. 02/06/2006 CP1RB 02/06/2006 16:31:47

I'm not shouting - via the uppercase - but citing verbatim from the Clerk's site :).

It appears that the October 31, 2006 date cited previously might have been a tentative one. But, goodness, it would be so fitting to have the trial commence - for a man some may see as the devil incarnate - on that day. It doesn't hurt to wish .

Another quality article by Michael Gill, "Free Times," about DiStasio:

Confessions of a Proud Pedophile
Phillip Distasio says getting caught was all part of his plan.

He no more wanted to get caught than does the Easter Bunny want to be discovered while hiding eggs; the article states:

“....We owned a police scanner so we could hear if the police were coming,â€Â￾ he says. “We kept baseball bats by the doors. Whenever a pedophile was in the news we would call off work, pull all the fuses, and sit there in the dark....â€Â￾

If he truly wanted to "get caught," it would have been nice if he had proclaimed his pride in pedophilia on his personal website - along with his legal name (something he avoided doing because, I suspect, that would have netted resumed focus on his activities by those whom monitored him previously).

The Lakewood Observer didn't advance his "plan"; it facilitated his arrest and that is what thwarted his ability to allegedly continue victimizing boys.

One thing can be said of DiStasio: He has a way of spinning facts... yawnnnn.

BTW: My legal name is Anne (which is misspelled in the article). No need to have a sit-down with me, Jim and others, to explain the rule for participation here. Unlike the wanna-be friar, I don't have a baseball bat by the door in my office or any door in my house, and I don't hide in the dark (making like a roach). I don't even have a police scanner and I won't be needing to abuse an extension cord.

I don't know how to abbreviate the URL for the article:

Michael Gill writes, "Shaughnessy says he advised his client against discussing this with the media, but he couldn’t prevent him from doing so."

In many ways, I am grateful that Phil can't stop talking and that he believes himself to be persuasive. He does have an amazing talent for spin.

Gill continues, "So instead of going there, he wants Judge Kathleen Sutula to remand him to the judgment of his own congregation, a nominal church in which he is the minister. He says there may be 100 families in his congregation, if you count all the people he’s had in serious conversation about his beliefs."

I'm guessing there are a number of families who wouldn't mind sitting in judgement of Phil.

And Anne, you have potentially endangered yourself by being so open here and have done so because of your beliefs both in the Observer project and in your serious pursuit of people who harm children. I don't think a typo on Michael Gill's part counts against you.

Michael's follow-up article was very interesting and I thank you for the link.

DL,

From reading the article(s) via the "Free Times" and "Lakewood Observer," I glean:

An extension cord is not needed for DiStasio to potentially hang himself. Quite possibly, he is living up to the pact that was reported to have existed between himself and Nolan. It's the pathway that differs: Through his (DiStasio's) lips and fingertips - agonizingly slow and chockful of verbosity. His words seem to be his rope.

It's evident - by his disregard for legal advice - he values counsel, Thomas Shaughnessy, lesser than a potted plant (well, make that a marijuana plant). My condolences to Mr. Shaughnessy.

If found guilty of the crimes DiStasio is alleged to have committed, maybe, then, he will: "credit it all to being a pedophile" who acted on his feelings and thoughts related to his philosophy on pedophilia. I'm sure his peer pedos will thank him for advancing the "cause." :D Thank goodness, he did not make use of an extension cord; the crime would be seeing him hailed (by his peers) as a "hero" whom society persecuted. Because he did not act on the pact (with Nolan), he's been regarded as a villian by the population he believes only he can serve and help: Pedophiles. 300 years of prison could be the sanctuary he needs.

Something that struck me while re-reading the article is: I was interviewed before DiStasio; I wasn't responding to comments he made; he's just an easy-read, espousing pretty much the same crock coming from his peer pervs, regardless of the facade they attempt construct - repeatedly in futile attempts - to sanitize what they seek: Children (and teens).

He got this right: "Pedophiles are people, too." And, pedophiles who go to prison are apt to be another's special friend. I wonder if that is how the term pen pal was coined?

Distasio is a sick and deluded man.

However, he has managed to accomplish something not many can do: get himself on television, a long article in the Observer, a cover story in Free Times, and now another article by Michael Gill in the Free Times.

Why the fascination? Why the interest in his ramblings? Who cares what he thinks or what philosophy he was espousing?

He's a sick and twisted nothing. He's not worth the time and paper.

Quit giving him attention.

I hate to disagree. Phil is a very calculating predator. He is also the tip of a very large iceberg. What is even more disturbing is that he was able to walk around Lakewood for two years, Columbus for two years and other places talking in the open and no one outside of Anne every gave it a thought. He was always brushed off as just a wacko.

Kids were a business to Phil, like a crop that was harvested. I hope he doesn't cop a plea so that it all comes out. Like I have pointed out there is a business in Lakewood that has/had names of 20 or more kids he brought to their store, and the place will not call the police!

Too much coverage, maybe, but I bet he takes the spotlight and hangs himself and others.

Distasio isn't particularly unique.

Before all this started, I didn't have a very good idea about the mindset of such people, but because of the research I did, I have learned much.

Sticking our heads in the sand isn't a particularly good way of living our lives. Learning about people like this who live among us raises our awareness.

DiStasio is smart and manipulative. He is a professional con man. Many smart people were taken in.

Were there warning signs we might have seen? I think it's worth exploring.

I respect the fact that each person has an opinion, and I certainly would not want to convey anything that might be construed as discounting yours.

Interesting, to me, there are pedophiles - within a perv network to which DiStasio belonged - whom still write him off as a "crazy loon." Contrarily, when one of their own expresses suicidal ideation they take steps to determine the whereabouts of that pedo and "reach out" to offer support. One says he molested, and everything is done to protect him - until he poses risks to their freedom.

I appreciate the reports - the "Lakewood Observer" and "Free Times" - published. I learned something by reading the articles: As much as I thought there isn't a thing he can say that will come as a surprise, he somehow managed when he ran his mouth, yet, again. He punched holes in his own legal argrument: Part of his plan was getting caught. Not! He and Nolan, for example, would not have secluded themselves with baseball bats and hid in the dark if the expectation was to be caught. Were they anticipating that they'd have to batter a parent of one of the "students"? or expecting a confrontation with officers? They wanted to be caught, as part of the grand plan, yet hid with bats.

While DiStasio is laying out his defense, against the advice of counsel, he continually buries himself. As an effect of his inability to shut his mouth, it's also quite possible the prosecution has read his comments and his ability to go on tangents in court will be curtailed, thus, saving taxpayers money.

One is free to read what one wants and skip what holds no interest to the individual reader :).

You misunderstand my post. I applaud what you are doing and admire your dedication. What I don't like is to see someone like Distasio getting so much attention. I think that's just what he wants.

Certainly, his mindset should be examined, by the proper professionals, so some sort of useful information could be gleaned to help in future investigations. But to treat him like some sort of celebrity, constantly interviewing and publishing his statements, seems to me to be playing right into his game.

Grace,

First of all: :).

I understand what you're saying and I can see your point. There is much more to the "story," though, than "meets the eye." No one wants to be cryptic; I know I sure don't. But, too, I also don't want his perv. peers gleaning insight (any heads-up) from something I may state, so I've been cautious of what I pen on a publicly accessible forum.

Just as I am following the case, so are his peers.

I view him as an educational tool; he's not the only pro-active pedophile in the midst - Lakewood or any other community. And, the means he used to dupe people also isn't an approach foreign to pedophiles.

He wasn't as direct about his proclivities until his back was against the wall - being told he had to use a legal name for the L.O. forum; and, he didn't pronounce his true motives for "helping" boys at his website until he was taken into custody and wanting to react to previously published articles about himself.

In this case-situation, efforts to prevent crimes against children failed. And one of the best ways to prevent similar from taking place in the future is by awareness and education. Unfortunately, the majority of pedophiles don't have a placard that reads: "I'm a pedophile." That leaves the opportunity to apply the articles for the aim of education.

He's alluded to pedo. groups he was a member of and that pervs have been using non-profits in ways similar to how he did - exploiting them for his/their own agenda. Such is an ongoing problem.

If one positive thing can result from the reports, and even his verbosity, I hope it is this: That parents and the directors of such non-profits will take note rather than chastising those whom have contacted such groups and warned them. Instead of intensifying background searches - on volunteers - and initiating steps to better protect children, some decided it was better to lash out at people telling them what pedophiles were doing (and still do) and directing their anger at those warning. They act as if they'd rather not know, and possibly that is so they can fake ignorance when they are responsible for putting children in harm's way.

For some reason, and goodness knows why, I'm clinging to the belief that DiStasio will not cite names of non-profits that I (and others) warned. But, something inside tells me: don't be surprised.

Too, from a protection/advocacy standpoint: It's known that once a suspected molester/rapist is in custody, those victimized (whom have not already reported) may feel safe in reporting. Some may not have seen the earlier reports or photos published. If he has victimized additional children, as many suspect, then, another positive aspect is: More children could come forward and report him. That would, then, facilitate services designed to aid their healing.

He's definitely not a celebrity, even if that's how he wishes to view himself. He's an example of so many things that went wrong and yet were preventable .

Talked with Mike Gill for awhile this afternoon.

Do not want to go into all of it but Phil is going to go down in flames in spectacular form. Grace and Anne are both right, he did not want to get caught, but he was ready for when the day came. I used to get many threats from him, I thought most were him trying some form of reverse psychology. "Go ahead call the police I will be the most expensive prisoner in history. I will send my minions..." There is no doubt he is playing to a huge stage. I think even the Chris Nolan suicide was planned. "We will both commit suicide if caught" was immediately followed by "You first" under his breath I am sure. That would give him the stage and a chance to pin it on others. Like I said, he is an ultimate predator.

He only was able to fool, fools that choose blindness. In this day and age that number is huge.

I've been following this thread as I'm sure you're aware. I'm Jan, the owner of opaat.org, who Anne has mentioned.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you had that conversation with Mike Gill.

What happened? Did Distasio read the article in the Free Times and erupt when he saw Anne's name? That would be characteristic of him. Something must have happened between the time he gave the interview and when he read the article.

Maybe DiStasio is playing the name-game, and rolling over on his fellow pedos; he always seemed the type - as long as he thinks it might help him.

I'm not sure what would have led to a suicide pact with Nolan. I mean, long ago (way prior to "hooking up" with DiStasio), Nolan penned his plan online and relayed where a note would be found - following his demise. At that time, it was a solo act he was planning.

I hope that DiStasio remains well; if he, somehow, manages to take his own life: His peers still won't mourn him. They could care less what happens to him. So, he will die has he has been living: in jail without their support.

Time will tell what he's up to now.
