Volume 6 - Out Today, PDF Available Now!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

The staff of the Lakewood Observer has worked overtime getting this issue out. But it will hit the streets today with what we think are some important stories. I would like to thank everyone that has helped. Also as more residents catch on to the meaning of "open source" we have reports on block parties, lemonade stands, even football reports from parents. The Observer is growing weekly.

NOW AVAILABLE AS A PDF ON YOUR DESKTOP

The Lakewood Observer now sends out an Adobe PDF version of the paper. If you would like to receive that, drop me a line at: JimOB@lakewoodobserver.com and just mention, "I would like a pdf"

Thanks again to everyone, with 25% of 7 done, I only see this getting better.

Also recently announced The Lakewood League of Women Voters has chosen the Lakewood Observer to carry their election information.

My husband and I delivered papers to residents on:
Andrews, Lakeland and Summit Avenues from Detroit to Clifton Blvd. and
French and Virginia Avenues from the railroad tracks to Clifton Blvd.

It is another great issue!

Detroit/Madison 3,260

Gold Coast 2,400
What was really heartwarming this time is every apartment asked for enough for each resident. They started off slow, 30 here 40 there. Now they say their tenants demand the paper.

We are making a difference.

As of tonight 13,600 papers out on the street!

Less than 2,000 left.

Don't let you neighbors down get them today!

Jim:

It is absolutely true - Lakewood loves the paper.

Many positive comments "I love the paper" from women.

Little children look forward to it, too. We walk blocks and become a familiar presence in the neighborhoods.

Again, this is profound community building and immensely restorative to the giver and receiver.

My favorite comment tonight was from the Roto Rooter Man on Nicholson, who seemed like he was a man of few words - "You're putting out a great paper. You really are. It's a great paper." So genuine, so real, so thick.

All writers should try to deliver and enjoy the eneregtic exchange.

Ken

This is so true. The flex flow of energy is amazing. I had the grand opportunity to speak with Jane Scott tonight as I was delivering at her apartment. She waved me down and said, "Jim this is the nest project you have ever done."

I told her the paper really saps the energy out of me as we get it to the printer. Huge stress, that flows through the office and editors into Bill and Jan Davis that do final work. 24 hours later the paper is out as as I walk the streets, drive the streets, etc. the energy level gets pumped to feverish highs.

Steve Davis, Dr. Chuck and I are treated like beat cops as we deliver. Candy for energy from Sweet Designs, a pop from Mr. Hero, pizza from Angelo's...

Last week Bill mentioned he was wearing his Lakewood Observer shirt at Crocker park and someone stopped him to tell him how much they loved the paper.

When you and I started this with DL, Steve and Steve, it was an innocent experiment in flex flow and civic intelligence. In six issues it has become the life blood of a city. People call the office everyday wanting to know about this or that while adding whatever they can to the tapestry of Lakewood.

We show love and respect to Lakewood and they return trust and love to us.

It is amazing.

Thanks to all.
