Madison Village Car Kulture Show

Post by Jerry Koenigsmark »

As the event organizer for the Madison Village Car Kulture Show, I was expecting more cars, but I feel the uncertainty with the weather detered alot of car people from attending. I can live with this. At roughly 120 cars, I felt it was a success considering the weather. The thing that was most disappointing to me was the lack of spectators compared to the first two shows. The citizens of Lakewood did not come out to support this event as they had done in the past. I'm not sure why. Was it not promoted enough? I would like peoples thoughts.

Car Show

Post by Gary Thomas »

Jim and Jerry,
I really liked the car show ALOT! Last year too! From what I've heard you guys put alot of work into it and though the quantity may not have been where you wanted it the QUALITY was. To me, the fact that it was smaller added to the charm of it. I felt like I was at some event that was destined to get bigger and I could say someday" Yeah, I remember when this thing was only a couple blocks, now look at it!" Right now the show seems to have a real spontanious quality about it. Like it's just "happening" or is a little free form, which is a good thing in my book.

Jerry, as far as your concerns about the turn out of the spectators I can only say hang in there. sure there could be more publicty/promotion but I think this event will catch. I've spoken to quite a few people who attended and they really enjoyed themselves and I have a feeling they told others about it. Honestly ,I've lived here my whole life and didn't think the powers that be in LKWD would get behind an event this cool. Even the cops were cool.

Oh and the music!! Uncle Scratch! thems some resourceful cats huh? sounded good. That rockabilly band definately knew what they were doin too( i don't know there name though, sorry)

At any rate, I hope it continues and doesn't move except for a few blocks in both directions. If there is any way I can help for next year I'm in. Thanks for your efforts, Gary Thomas

Gary,
Thanks for the feedback. We've actually sent out a survey to the car owners that registered their email address with us, and the results that came back were very positive, which makes me feel better. I hope everyone, car owners and spectators, had a great time. Plans are already being discussed for next years event, which we hope will be bigger and better. We learn each year on how to improve. I want this event to be a part of Lakewood for a long time.

This is not an event in which I have any interest whatsoever but DH & I have enjoyed our visits the past two years very much.

I would like to see more stuff for sale on the street, like event t-shirts, more food (we were there early on & may have missed much) and cool car accessories. I did visit a couple of shops I otherwise would have passed by, but there could be more of a sidewalk sale feel to the event.

I'd like to think that the show is growing its own flavor; it's different from anything else and that's very positive.

I do believe the weather played a large part in keeping people away, since it was raining nearly everyplace but Lakewood that day.

I don't know if I would try to move it - there's something great about having events on Madison.
