Saw two wild turkeys on lake ave today. Sorry no pix.
Those hawks eat a bird in our back drive about once every 6 weeks. There is nothing left but a few feathers and for whatever reason, the contents of the preys stomach.

i saw 10 turkeys the other day in the metroparks - 10 hens and 2 toms - they walked across the road in front of me, near the end of the day, they were probably going to roost.
also, talking of red tail hawks, was out hunting for rabbits in late february and came across a rabbit that was the meal of a hawk - saw alot of fur but couldn't find the rabbit.
i turned around and on a tree branch was the remains of rabbit skin hanging from the branch - that hawk picked it clean.

Missy:
What type of hawk is it? I see similar by the freeway all the time. There usually is a screech owl in my neighborhood, but I have not sighted it this year. The squirrels are running around care free!

No clue what type of hawk it is. Last summer it was on the top of my car, eating a bird and it just looked at me. I had to get in my car but thought it would be best to just wait a bit before leaving. I sent my large dog out to scare it away and it still did not budge.

There were four total this summer and I thought they were falcons so when I got my job in a ninth grade academy "Home of the Falcons" I thought it was a sign! I was glad when they disappeared and now that I have a tiny pup am not happy to see them back. They are scary up close and all my yelling of "boo" never scared them, In fact they slowly turned while on my fence and gave me a snarky look.

Justine they are in that tree next to my garage which is right by you too. They built their nest there. They at first had 3 babies, but sadly one fell out of the tree and my lab got a hold of it. So it was the family and 2 babies. When we were building the garage they would swoop down and make a strange noise at us. The one hit me in the head with his wing, I thought I was going to die!!! It looked like he was trying to land on me. But yeah they are back now.

I am telling you if one swooped at me and hit me with a wing I would have cardiac arrest. They are formidable and I was trying to save a baby squirrel they were eyeing while perched on my fence this summer but to no avail. I see their nest in that bare tree everyday! More like a hut!
