Tri-C has opened a new campus in Medina County in Brunswick:

The article states that the new TriC- campus will complement a new Cleveland State Campus also located in Brunswick. Students in Brunswick like the idea of being able to be so close to home, schools and work. Brunswick City officials are excited about the synergies the deal will create. CSU and Tri-C officials have said similar facilities in Lakewood would make no sense.

What makes no sense to me is that Tri-C can spend $10 million to build 20 class rooms and insist that the facility can be operated for less than the operating costs of its Cuyahoga County facilities. How can this be?

The broader questions:

If:
Cuyahoga County institutions are hell bent on expanding their operations to areas outside of Cuyhoga County

to: serve people who once lived in Cuyahoga County

and: no who longer pay taxes to Cuyahoga County

why: should any business or individual choose to stay in Cuyahoga County?

I sometimes think we are being forced to buy the bullets they use to shoot us with.

Maybe it they are not interested as people in this town keep floating a false rumor of University of Akron coming to town. Which has always been a no no with Ohio Board.
But the rumors continue, and maybe this is what is keeping Tri-C and even CSU out.

I see that Crocker Park dreamed big and got the University of Arizona there, but some
think that would be over reaching. Of course those people do not see Lakewood the way
you and I do.

Ken Warren, had floated a good idea of getting Jesuit Colleges to come into those empty
churches and offer Junior College curriculum, to help Lakewood students get ready for
College, and life.

Part of the Visionary Alignment for Lakewood. Where residents working with professionals
were encouraged to dream big, and out of the box.

I'm still trying to figure out how they can spend $10 million for 20 class rooms and then insist the money generated will make up the 41% County subsidy and amortize a $10 million mortgage.

How smart can they be when they spend $10 million to build 20 classrooms when they can have a vacant school for free?

The frustrating thing for me is that efforts by Cuyahoga County insitutions to expand their presence in Medina County and Lake County and Lorain County further dilute economic activity.

Those efforts undo ALL of the work done by Cities like Lakewood to stabilize population and increase economic activity. Is it an accident?

I assume that City officials are aware of all this and are working behind the scenes to lessen the damage; perhaps even working with other Cities to confront these institutions with the simple questions: What do you think you are trying to accomplish?

Of course they might not be getting honest answers.

When I first read about Mental Health Services homeless resettlement program officals at the agency were quoted as saying they needed to move out of their Tremont building because of numerous housing violations. When I asked about those violations and asked for a list of those violations I was told that MHS was unaware of any housing violations at the Tremont building. Can both statements be true?
