Lakewood resident and University of Akron soccer player Darlington Nagbe won the Hermann trophy over the weekend for being the best college soccer player in the NCAA. This is like winning the heisman trophy in soccer. He is also expected to be the #1 pick in MLS draft coming up. He played two years at Lakewood High and one year at St. Edward. He also led the University of Akron to their first national championship in any sport. Congratulations to Darlington Nagbe! Well done.

The Hermann Trophy is "the Heisman Trophy of soccer".
Outside of the US, it is "the Heisman Trophy of football".

Don't forget it would also be "Heisman Trophy of soccer" also in Canada, most of Australia and parts of New Zealand and South Africa.

As a side note, the word "soccer" actually originated in England to differentiate Rugby Football from Association Football in the 1860's but then was dropped and the sports became known as Rugby and Football.
