Tonight by a vote of 4 yeas, and one abstaining Matthew Markling was voted
in as President of the School Board for 2011.

John Kamkutis was voted in as Vice President of the School Board by 3 yeas 2 abstain.

Congratulations to both.

I know we have often spoken of the schools and of your many ideas for the schools and
look forward to the coming year to see the School Board continue to build on the Lakewood
Schools tradition of Excellence!

Great news! I am thrilled to have fellow parents with kids in the Lakewood schools right now, in charge of the School Board and taking care of the District. Two dads indeed. Good job School Board and congratulations Matt and John!

Happy First Wednesday of the year!

I have heard that the one abstaining from voting for Matt Markling for President of the Board was outgoing Board President Betsy Shaughnessy. She and Linda Beebe were the ones who abstained from voting for John Kamkutis for Vice President.

Can anyone that was there, or who has heard, tell me if Betsy and Linda gave their reasons for abstaining, or imply any reasons in what they said?
