I heard this morning that Mike Summers has been selected as mayor by a council vote as of last night.

It does not make sense to me as I thought Saturday was the day. Anyone have any information on this?

Grace

I have not heard anything and Council President Kevin Butler has been upfront and intouch.

I just spoke with Mary Hagan and she said nothing.

For what it is worth, my submission was in before the first deadline. Not the extended deadline.

Who are these people? I know three names on the list and I only know of one as a poster on this forum. Jim, do us all a favor and post their resumes or applications. Those are public documents. It provides a window into who is applying even though the selection is a foregone conclusion.

What? Not one single woman applied to be mayor? I am disappointed. There are so many competent and smart women who live in Lakewood who probably would make great mayors. I am disappointed.

I hate to say it, but I have heard along that Mike Summers was already "selected" to be mayor a long time ago. I am not saying he wouldn't make a good mayor; however, don't waste people's time with pseudo interviews, or shut out opportunities to get to know other possible leaders who may be great for Lakewood. I know appointments are part of our city charter and that Lakewood is not unique regarding this issue, but I don't like them. I much prefer elections.

Interesting. Did the initial call for applicants state that one should not have any interest in seeking the full term in November 2011? An e-mail in the documentation from one of the candidate's seemed to indicate that.

I will have to read each one. I honestly thought about doing it. I sat down, wrote my letter, resume and everything. I was just too afraid to send it in....
