Despite an early race fall and dropping back to mid-pack, Lakewood High School Varsity Cross Country runner Nick Jackosky was able to make his way back to the front of the pack and win last weekends North East Ohio Conference Championships held in Strongsville with a time of 16:04 for the 5k race. Lakewood, as a team, finished sixth overall.

Nick's standout season includes wins at the Legends Meet (Cortland, OH), the McQuaid Invitational (Rochester, NY), and the McDonough Invitational (Cleveland Heights, OH).

Watch for Nick, a Junior at LHS and a Cleveland Plain Dealer player of the week,
to put in a strong performance this Saturday at the OHSAA District Cross Country meet being held at Edgewater Park.

The LHS Mens Cross Country Team finished 5th overall at Saturday's D1 District Tournament held at Edgewater Park.
Unfortunately, only the teams placing 4th or higher continue on to the Regional event being held
this coming weekend in Tiffin Ohio. However, individuals who place in the top 16 do advance to the Tiffin Regional meet.

Nick Jackosky finished in second place 5 seconds behind winner John Sweeney of St. Ignatius who
finished with a time of 15:57. LHS Senior Clay Verga finished 16 out of a field of 91 runners.
Both Nick and Clay qualified to compete as individuals at Tiffin.

The Tiffin meet qualifies teams and individuals for the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships
held on Nov. 6, 2010 at the Scioto Downs Race Track in Columbus.

Congratulations and good luck to Nick and Clay.
