Came home this afternoon and found some new bike paths running along the
fabulous Emerald Canyon. We shall name it the Emerald Canyon Bike Path.



Unbelievable sunsets, vistas and wildlife can be seen biking along the canyon.

Uh, what do you mean it is not a bike path?

Ohhhhhhh, a no passing zone. Well that would mean no cars, so guess what
we have a new Emerald Canyon Bike Path!

I am going to be very angry if that means Lakewood thinks Riverside is a four lane road because it most certainly is NOT capable of handling 4 lanes of vehicles.

Cleveland very clearly marked Rocky River Drive as a two lane road with a center turning lane. That is what Riverside is and should be marked as.

I drive up and down Riverside every day and it is like a highway - everyone speeds and when cars pass another they go over the double yellow. I have seen numerous accidents as well as many near misses on Riverside.

So what is the line for?

The line's to ensure motorists no longer think it's a four-lane road, for the reasons you reference. Hope that helps.

I received a notice earlier today that the Parks Department is hosting a Bikeway Planning Workshop on Tuesday, October 5th in the Auditorium at Lakewood Public Library from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Hopefully we are on our way to making this a reality.

Help us make our city a great place to ride!

This workshop will is the first opportunity for residents to share their input and ideas about commuter and recreational bicycling in Lakewood.

Bicycling promotes efficient land use, promotes efficient use of road space, promotes equitable transportation, supports buying local, promotes health and fitness, reduces air and noise pollution, reduces traffic congestion, reduces taxpayer burden, reduces parking demand, reduces energy use, and is an integral part of a progressive community.

Lakewood has a significant bicycling population of both transportation and recreational riders. Most of the City is flat, densely-populated and was developed around streetcar lines creating a compact layout that offers relatively short distances between schools, parks, residential areas and commercial centers. Most vehicle trips inside the City are less than five miles round trip and because of Lakewood’s layout could potentially be accomplished on a bicycle. However, the City currently lacks the coordinated infrastructure that supports bicycling in taking full advantage of that potential.

In the interest of improving the cycling environment, the bicycle plan’s purpose will be to identify and then direct the implementation of a continuous network of cross-town routes and facilities. Such a network will promote safe and convenient bicycle travel throughout the community for riders of all abilities, skills and objectives.

I do think, knowing the clueless drivers out there, that the lines might work better if they were either yellow or even just made into a double white line. The lane is too narrow for parking, a bit wide for a bike path, and might confuse people into thinking its just another lane.

I've driven by it several times today and just think it needs something, especially since there are sections where there are no markings. It is somewhat perplexing.
