I talked with him for a few minutes last night. We are doomed.

I would have to disagree Bill.
Dale Miller is just who we want as one of the first members of the new County Council. Dale is a thoughtful, smart and well informed policy guru. He knows how government works and knows how things should work. I'm thrilled that he has chosen to do this and am proud to support him. If more elected officials were as concerned for policy and the process as Dale is (instead of their own personal ambition and gain), we'd be a lot better off.
Thanks.
John

I disagree.
Dale Miller is exactly the wrong candidate for Cuyahoga County in general and the City of Lakewood in particular.
The evidence is in his web site:
http://dalemillerforohio.com/issues.htmlEducation:
“We need to give school districts more natural growth in income, so they don’t have to ask for levies every other year or so.”
Translation: Automatic tax increases to fund automatic raises. No need for the pesky voters to get involved.
Jobs and Economic Development”
“We need a tax system which is broad and fair and provides sufficient revenue to provide excellent government services at reasonable rates”
“We need to assist our automobile industry to retool to build fuel-efficient vehicles for the 21st century.”
Translation: Taxes need to be raised so the State can subsidize the United Auto Workers.
Health Care:
“Universal health care makes good financially”.
Translation: He wants to adopt plans similar to what nearly bankrupt Tennessee and is in the process of bankrupting Massachusetts.
Dale Miller is a classic liberal democrat who will do the bidding of government labor unions and those institutions dependent on government for their survival. His idea of a dynamic economic plan is the Soviet Five Year Plan.
There also some Lakewood specific reasons he is a bad choice.

Bill,
It is just a shame that this is a new committee or Dale Miller would have just been appointed to it, that is how he gets most of his jobs

Very smart guy and such a good little soldier, clearing the field for the flavor of the month.

OH me Oh me - the answer is "Obama is a communist!!"
Or is that just the flavour of this month??
Tea Party flavor next month - Earl Grey ? ....... alternate answers on a 3x5 card.
Interesting analysis upto the Soviet references, then.....sounded just like a Palinism for the express consumption of the Beck 'n' Buddies crew.
Soviet Five Year Plan ??

You can do better than that!

Wellll may be a little over the top..
On the other hand,
To the extent Mr. Miller has ideas they are the ideas of a man who looks to government to create economic growth. The bumper sticker explanation of his economic plan is:
Tax Producers To Support The Losers!
In this case the losers would be unions like the UAW. Rather than increase the competetiveness of the region he would subsidize inefficient and heavily unionized industries at the expense of newer, fresher and more agile companies. That's what they have been doing in Michigan. How has that worked out?
He also believes that our economic problems would be lessened if we had more government employees with better pay and better retirement packages. Kinda like our school board.
He has been a loyal political apparatchik. Appointed, annointed and properly subservient to the people who appoint and annoint.
My question is: Who will represent Lakewood?

Dale Miller is running for one of the county council seats, he is not getting appointed to a new committee. The field is still wide open and candidates can still file to run for the seat so if the prospect of Dale Miller as your county council representative has you terrified run for the seat or support an alternative candidate.

So, Bill, you always have so much to say and you think you know so much better than anyone else who has taken the chance to run for office - how about you run and show us how it's done? Or do you think you serve the greater good better by sitting on the sidelines and doing noting but complaining?

I'm sure Mr. Miller is a good man. I'm sure he is a better man than I am. However, there is nothing in his history in politics to even offer a hint that he would challenge the status quo.
Lakewood, Brook Park and West Park need an advocate not a rubber stamp. This district needs someone to fight for their interests.
What is there in the history of Mr. Miller to suggest that he will fight that fight?

I think Dale Miller has been fighting the good fight for years. Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor - Dale is a fighter and has been doing so for our region since he's been on Cleveland City Council. Dale has consistently offered legislation in Columbus to challenge the status quo. He's offered ideas and has fought for issues such as education, heath care and civil rights. I think his record speaks to this very clearly. He fought for the new form of government despite many of his colleagues opposition. This new government will need someone who knows the ins and outs of policy and process and Dale is the right person for that job. He doesn't intend to be there forever, he wants to get things off right as we move into a new era of governance.
If you don't think Dale is the right man for the job then why don't you step up and run? Show us how it is done Bill. Be that advocate for a new and better way. Be that person who will make a difference for Lakewood, Brookpark and West Park. I know you have many ideas - many of them are good ones! Challenge Dale and lets see whose ideas resonate with voters.
