Lakewood Police Car in Car Accident?

So on my way home from work today at around 7:10, I saw a Lakewood police car smashed into the rear end of a park car in the curb lane of Clifton east bound. Does anyone have any idea what happened? When I drove by (going west) there were two other cop cars there as well. The car the police car hit had its rear bumper and trunk totally smashed, it had to have taken a lot of force. Not to mention the parked car had been pushed into the rear of the car in front of it. I don know how much damage was done to the third car but it was defiantly hit. I am just concerned and kind of curious as to how this happened.

Actually everyone that saw this accident is wondering what happened. I got the call from
another Observer. It seems as if it happened in a lane with parked cars. You cannot tell
when they were parked, before or after the accident.
FWIW

Well, Without knowing the full story Let's just keep in mind the cops are just people too. And if there is one thing I know about driving... it is easy to hit stuff. As long as everybody is ok then it is all good.

Jim, I am so glad you got a picture of it. I almost always go every where with a camera on me and was so annoyed when I didn't have one to stop and capture this moment. Of course the one place I dont take my camera is work. Thanks again for always being our eyes when we can't be there.

Yeah the big american on the block beating up on the little foreigner. Would that be what they call a crumple zone?

Being a Jetta owner this is good news to me, at least it appears as long as someone isn't riding in the trunk they'll be pretty safe.

I drove by there a little before 7, saw the same. There were a bunch of fire trucks around as well, and cops and firemen milling about. Not clear what happened if it was a chase, or what happened.

Jerry
I went back today to see if it made any sense from skid marks etc.
It is even crazier.
I did not take pictures.
There was a trail of oil from the center lane, to where the police car came to a rest,
there was a large puddle and speedy dry.
It also looked as if the Jetta and another car was pushed forward 2' judging from the skid marks.
Engine failure? Did not look like brake fluid. Pulls over, power breaks not working,
car slides into parked cars?
50' in length if that.
No idea.

No, the Germans solved that one years ago after the famous Audi 5000 fake 60 Minutes story. Their brake pedal overrides the gas, unlike in Toyotas.

I was recently witness to a bad accident and a Passat wagon was involved. He was missing his entire from end, but the guy inside was fine with all of the airbags that went off. Those are good cars to be in an accident in, if you are so unfortunate.

Last year my husband was hit by someone running a stop sign, the side of the car took a beating but he didn't even have a scratch on him. We love volkswagens, they are good safe cars.
