This time of year...

Those that know me know I collect and love to share Christmas/Holiday music.

I am always amazed and enjoy the messages that are crafted into holiday music. That range
from the simple "Over the river and through the woods..." to George Jones' "Lonely Christmas Call."
But no song hits me harder every year than John Lennon's "War Is Over"
also known as "So This Is Christmas."

The lines...

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun

Makes me aware of what I have not done the past year to help others and make things better.

This morning a very dear friend sent me this version and I share it with you. It is a real
killer, but really brings life into focus. We as residents of the Earth are in control, and we as
residents of the Earth need to make the change happen. This version is worth watching.

peace to all this holiday season.
what will you do in the coming year?

This time of year?

Hmmm....

Reflections of conscience, anyone?

Better would it be, if more people realized that social responsibility rests in their hands EVERY SINGLE day of the year.

There is always a danger that people will feel powerless to effect change, but that is always untrue. Change can be, and is, effected each and every day by those who choose to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

There are hundreds of volunteers right here in Lakewood who already provide thousands of hours of community service to others.

Whether officially, through the H2O youth office or the Office on Aging, or through the churches or other groups, (or even unofficially, through hundreds of quiet individual efforts) all around this town, and in so many others in our country and world, good stuff gets done.

Is there still more to do? Yep.

No doubt about it, war stinks. The effects of war continue to cause untold grief and also, let's face it, oftentimes to sow further seeds of future conflicts.

Still, amid the horrors of war, there is much good that gets done, even by the warriors. Every year, for example, the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program helps so many children. This is indeed a complex world, and great good can be found in a great many places.

There's really no time for hand-wringing, head-wagging, or crocodile tears. There's more work to be done in the real world of real peoples' lives.

Interested in making a better world?

There's a task out there that is custom fit for you alone.

Jim,
I was shocked that, for the first 4 minutes or so of that video, I agreed with much of what John had to say.

Gary,
Very well put.

Now, a more humorous look at Chr...I mean Winter:

Gary

So nice that you watched and listened to the video.

I have watched it maybe 10 times since posting.

Roy

I truly believe that the real differences between parties, no make that people is very small.

You know what they say, "From the mouth of even Beatles comes sometimes pearls of wisdom."

Agreed...I think (the end of that sentence doesn't quite make grammatical sense, but I think I still understand what you are saying.)
Even Whoopi Goldberg and Glenn Beck can agree with each other on some issues.

I've read that Page Not Found article tons of places. I guess its just another story that the leftist mainstream media prefers to sweep under the rug and hope no one will hear about.

But seriously, something is wrong with that URL.
