I don't want to become an Eloi (although they were very pretty...but....I don't like to be herded!)
Get as much information as you can find.. from sourses outside of Lakewood.
Request from the Auditor of State all emails, meeting notes, reports, studies...and any and all information submitted by Lakewood and/or pertaining to Lakewood during both the Audit and Performance Audit process. Ask for this information for both the City of Lakewood audits and the Lakewood City School audits.
And any other outside agency, goverment entity with which Lakewood does business, recieves grants from, enters into contracts with......
Outside sources are far more forth coming with information. And, the information is far more informative then any published or final version.
And the bonus....outside entities give the information freely, dont make you feel like a criminal for asking, and will work with you to understand what is not clear.
Ask for any and all information. The more information you have, the better you can understand and see the truth
What can be gleemed from outside sources gives alot of insight into the powers that be future path for Lakewood.
We wont even recognize this place when the remake is over

Does someone have a decoder ring for all of this??
If we're railing against backdoor discussions and dealings, shouldn't we all be sharing here?

That would seem to be "the question" best asked to City Hall- Good Luck on that Endeavor

If I knew what it was, I would ask!
But I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be a Morelock, an Oompa-Loompa or an Ewok!!!

Ok, heres a question I have.
How can we ask intelligent questions when we dont have all the facts?
And how can we trust what we are told when a whole lot of everything seems weird, wrong, questionable..
The Auditor of State report analysis- has in the police section population numbers from the 2000 census--- 56,646 (B7.1b)
The Jail Assessment ( ODRC) has numbers from
2005 52,100
2006 51,800
2007 51,305
So are their concluions and recomendations based on accurate information? Were accurate population numbers give and used in the end?
Do these final reports have merit based in fact?
Can numbers change based on who is asking for them? Or what is hoped to be proven/disproved by them?
Or am I not seeing where true and accurat numbers were provided?
Anyone know?

What's the concern? The report mentions on page 2 that population has declined 9% since the last census. 51,305 divided by .91 = 56,379, which is pretty darn close to the 2000 census numbers.

Did the Auditor of State have the SAME info? Because it "seems" not.
Which report are you refering to? I see it on the Jail Assesment page 2, but am asking if
both Agencies were provided with the same information
I am not the brightest bulb in the bunch.. I need things to be clear and specific for me to grasp

It looks like that spreadsheet is a worksheet used to compile this?

One of many, yes I believe so
The link you have is to the completed, published version, right? The file I up loaded was from what went into the released to the public version.
Did you find where an accurate population count was given in the published version? I havent had time to look

D3.1 col background summery 3 (file)
Pop-2006 -52,197 (discrepancy)
Square miles 6.7
City of Lakewood phase 2 Performance Audit:
http://www.auditor.state.oh.us/AuditSearch/Reports/2008/City_of_Lakewood_08_Performance-Cuyahoga.pdf Page one- has population at 52,194 - ( which is confirmed by the census figures
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/3941664.html)
But one is still left to wonder if the false population was actually used in the analysis of the police and fire departments ….
Because on the same page…
Page One of the City of Lakewood Phase 2 Performance Audit:
“The City of Lakewood” ..“covers approximately 6.7 miles”Yet the City website (
http://www.onelakewood.com/ConsideringLakewood.aspx) States clearly the City is 5.6 miles. Or is it not really 5.6 mile like the City of Lakewood website says?
That extra mile would matter.. Matters a lot in the figuring of the needed number of Police, Fire….. Doesn’t it?
The extra mile is in the water - does that make a differance in calculations? Didnt see where the Auditor made any mention of the fact that the other mile is water.

Mayor Ed Fitzgerald, going that extra mile for Lakewood?
Seemingly so, for one year any how.
Does anyone have any insight into the 1.1 mile discrepancy which occurred within our city over the past year?
From the year 1999 every and all State Audits has Lakewood listed at 5.6 and 5.66 miles.
Then in the 2008 State Audit “Performance Audit” Lakewood is listed at
6.7 miles.
Seems odd.
Odder still…
The recently released September 01, 2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report has Lakewood back at 5.6 miles.
What is the deal with this mystery 1.1 mile?
How can the dimensions of Lakewood change?
The difference between 6.7 miles and 5.6 miles is approximately 16.6 percent (math is not my thing so double check).
16.6 percent can have a considerable impact on our budget. During this “Lakewood’s worst financial crisis”

Whats the deal with this mystery mile?

Ms. Hurd:
No offense, but what are you talking about?
The census is done every 10 years. Those are the only "official" population numbers. Different agencies choose to use different population estimates based on trends.
Most of us in Lakewood use the lower number of square miles because we don't count the portion of the lake we control. We mentioned that to the Auditors, and they preferred to use the larger number. They felt it did not affect their overall conclusions.
Does this explain the latest conspiracy theory?
I have trouble following all your theories on here, but you can ask us any question you want, at a council meeting or one of our community meetings, or you can file more public records requests, and we'll keep responding.

Mr. Ed Fitzgerald, Mayor of Lakewood
You are, at minimum, being disingenuous
A5a.7 CoL Police tables
Table 4-x: Sworn officer ComparisonLakewood
Square miles of city ----------- 6.7
Sworn officer per square mile -------- 13.6Response times ------------ 3.35
Euclid
Square miles of city -------11.57
Sworn officer per square mile ---- 8.6
Response times ---------- 3.5
Kettering
Square miles of city --18.69
Sworn officer per square mile --- 4.7
Response time ---- 3.00
Or are you STILL saying the 16.6 (check my math..Math is not my thing) percent increase in mileage does not effect the budget during this "Lakewoods worst finacial crisis"??
