Political Attacks

Post by Ryan Patrick Demro »

If the Mayor, Nickie Antonio, Brian Powers, and Monique Smith are going to mudsling, why don't they explain what they mean? My campaign did not issue one single piece of literature attacking any other candidate. So where is the mud?

Ryan, Could you elaborate? I don't know what you're talking about.

Wow! For someone all incensed about political attacks made against him, even after asking Ryan what they were I still don't know, you cut loose on the candidate thread Ryan.

Just couldn't help yourself could you? So much for above it all and all that.

This is the piece that I was supposed to download on Thursday.

This is the contradictory mail piece paid for by Friends of Fitzgerald. Mailed on Thurs. Being negative while staying positive :?:

I would feel better if it were endorsed and paid for by someone who was planning on sticking around.

I'm assuming this is the piece that Ed sent out with Nickie, Monique and Brian Powers. Which was wonky also because Dan Shields was the one who got the endorsement, not Brian.

Yeah, it's my bad, sorry. I pitched it with the rest of the garbage.

Dan

That is Loreum Ipsum, a tool used to design books, and newspapers in their infancy,
before real stories actually come in. It allows a group to develop the feel of a project
without actually getting hung up on the actual content of a piece.

What many of us here at the Observer found so amusing is that they needed to create
a fictional paper to get that headline. And that had there actually been a real story with
content, there could have been two papers that would have run the piece. It was our
opinion that had they turned to the papers, they might have been asked questions about
the facts involved.

But in a city more in love with illusion than facts, it is the perfect piece.

Actually pretty funny.

Hey Dan, I thought you won the endorsement of the Lakewood Democratic Club, how
come I have seen no LDC pieces with your name on it? Seems like everything is coming
from "Friends of FitzGerald" Not the Lakewood Democrats.

Just curious.

Apparently, the non illustrious pres of the Dems club who I have been trying to depose for a year, Tom Bullock does what someone who shall remain unnamed, at the county tells him to do and they are the ones paying for the pieces sent out by "Friends of Fitzgerald".

Could be there is something smelly in the City of Lakewood.

I would like the wool that they are attempting to pull over everyone's eyes to be transparent.

This brings up the issue of transparency in government. Who is really paying for these campaigns? The expenditures were not reflected on Powers, Antonio, or the other candidates expense reports. Nice way to get around the system, funnel it through the Mayor. Isn't this what was happening with a former Attorney General in a pay to play scandal? Take campaign contributions with intent through the county party, then funnel to candidates under that auspice. Just what people are looking for in government these days.

I've come to the conclusion that transparency in all levels of government in Lakewood just doesn't exist. Not that most people even seem to care, so no wonder the status quo continues to be so widely accepted. It's really a shame.

So this year's marketing feature is "positive" candidates instead of the more successful fear-mongering candidates in the last election cycle?

We're going to more appointees in City Hall & the BOE than I feel comfortable with before too long.

As a matter of fact, I was proud to win the endorsement of both the Lakewood Democratic Club and the County Democratic Party, as well as the endorsement of State Rep. Michael Skindell and State Senator Dale Miller. Nonetheless, unlike in past elections, the Lakewood Democratic Club is refusing to send out an endorsement piece with my name on it, but are running their own slate. (The Club did one mailer, prior to the Primary.) Despite my hard work for the Democratic Party, and my best efforts, I can't even get a 'hello' from Democratic Mayor Ed Fitzgerald, Lakewood Democratic leader Mike Dever, and Democratic Councilman Kevin Butler, Democratic Councilwoman Mary Louise Madigan, Democratic Councilman Michael Summers, Democratic Councilman and Lakewood Democratic Club President Tom Bullock, and Democratic Councilman Brian Powers. If anyone knows any of these people feel free to ask what the problem is, and let me know. Apparently I'm not a 'Friend of Fitzgerald'.

At least the Lakewood Republicans give me the time of day.

Dan,

The invite I extended through Tom applied to you. You are more than welcome to come to the LRO's candidate forum and talk tomorrow night at the library. Just let me know. It would be nice to see some debating :)

Dan, i think you are a thoughtful, decent person...but your post is less than honest...the club is not refusing to put out an endorsement piece....they put out one in the primary, and due to the higher than normal early voting, it expended several thousand dollars of the clubs funds, negating the possibility of a second mailing....and you know this and acknowledged this at the club meeting. The club spend thousands of dollars to promote you...and you are showing a lack of gratitude for that support. To expect the club to run your campaign is ludicrous, spend your own campaign money. The club would be more than willing to mail a second mailer should you choose to fund it. What the club is unwilling to do is to spend money it does not have.

Secondly, the Democratic Party endorsed you, Monique, Powers and Antonio....they endorsed all four. The sitting council people are free to endorse or support whomever they chooe, and there are four endorsed Democrats for three spots, sorry you appear not to be the incumbent Council Persons choice..., this election will not be determined by whom Summers, Madigan, or Skindell support. It will be determined by your hard work, or lack therof, and your message....Like you, many people are life long Democrats, you control your own fate in this election and don't blame anyone but yourself for your results. I wish you well, you are well intentioned. But don't distort the truth as if you are a victim.

Brian -

Your very post is dishonest. Let's not forget to tell our readers that you are here, as in the Democratic Club, as a Fitzgerald supporter. Second, in each of the last three elections there was plenty of money to send out endorsement pieces for the endorsed candidates. Why not this time? It's funny how there was always enough money for a Fitzgerald piece and/or a Dever piece, but the Club will not be sending one out for the general election. Finally, what I placed on this post is FACT. Excuse me if I think Democrats should endorse and fight for endorsed Democrats. And finally, I noticed that you failed to mention that Brian Powers was not endorsed by the Democratic Club...but that I was. So, if you want to be honest here, than be honest.
