What about the new restaurant 56 I think on Detroit? Is that open and anyone have information? Jim you should work with restaurants and have someone (pick me, pick me!) assigned to eat and write about them!!!!

Sitting back giving them time.

A nice locally owned restaurant, tired of talking, decided to do something about
it by opening a restaurant in Lakewood. Good person, and a name we all know.
I wish them well, and will have the story.

Surprise LA hasn't already taken credit, and given themselves some awards.

While that is news, I got even bigger news of a food name we ALL LOVE moving to
Lakewood. They called me on the phone wondering about Lakewood,and ran out there
for a small bite to eat and talk with the owner. The owner is very serious, what I did
not know was that he grew up on Roosevelt, and really misses Lakewood. Three
historic names associated with this business!

Sure they will take credit for this too,and give themselves some more awards.

What I like about this is Lakewood owned. Dreams become reality. What makes
The Melt so good,and places like GreenSmart Gifts, Phoenix Coffee, Bela Dubby,
Beer Engine, and many others so special, deep roots in the community.

We also still have the Williams family looking for space in and around Lakewood.

Someone said on here that the city was requiring sprinklers be installed as the space currently has none. The CM owners felt it was a landlord issue and wanted the LL to pay for the upgrade instead of them. No deal was reached and Crazy Mac's walked. I hope they open somewhere (ANYWHERE!) soon. I loved that place.

Sorry, not Crazy Mac's but speaking with the owner, should be better, and home grown.

One thing that really needs to be understood,is that some people like to get things
moving before the announcement is made. The new owner loves Lakewood, lives
in Lakewood, and thinks he has a perfect fit for his style of food,and I would say
he is correct.

When it comes to restaurants, having been in the business, I like to give them a chance
to soft open, work out any bugs, then celebrate the real opening.

This will be good.

You mean Route 6? I've read that it is open now, but haven't been.

56W has been open for awhile and is great.

And, Jim, Lakewood Alive did mention in their last newsletter that something was going into that space. I think they just referred to it as a diner?

Our family votes for a diner in the center of town. But, since part of our required definition of "diner" is "open 24 hours," that's hard to do with the city regulations. We have been going to Diana's for our diner fix but would love to have one a bit closer.

If LAlive really wants to make a difference for businesses, see if something can be done to enable non-alcohol-serving places that want to be open 24 hours (or at least into the wee hours) to do so. The drunks need a place to sober up and the insomniacs need a place to be that doesn't disturb other household members (that's how I developed a diner addiction myself - need for a bowl of soup at 3am not because I was drunk but just because I get bad insomnia sometimes... not so much a problem now that I'm a mother, closer to narcolepsy!)

More community amenities that are attractive to young professionals that get them hooked on our town before they have kids to the point that they want to stay here after they do (and as they start earning more money later in their careers) would be a good thing for the town. Quirky locally-owned shops DO appeal to that demographic, as does the fact that we're becoming more and more eco-conscious. Building on our already pretty good technological base would help too - I'm quite happy with the semi-recent upgrades to the city's website and the email alerts I can get, but there is room for improvement (and being a leader in the region if not the country) with a few things there that I'd love to see implemented. While we've also got an abundance of "3rd places" for folks who don't have kids in tow, a few more overtly family-friendly ones would also be appreciated (and that means more than just a kids' menu and crayon stockpile). I have some fairly developed ideas along those lines if anyone would like to talk about them further - I have neither the energy or the finances to implement them on my own.

I got a note home in my son's backpack about what look to be weekly community potluck dinners or something at Grant, it would be wonderful if there were a secular, purely social (no politics!) version of this that wasn't limited to families with young children (but preferably didn't exclude them either). From what has been on my radar, the only ones that go on have clear agendas that at least boarder on the political. People need a "safe" space to get to know others in their community without getting roped into a project or committee. My own church is rather guilty of that one and I've been bugging them about it for a while, we only have a handful of purely social groups, and those you have to get in at the start-up or get specially invited in later, so it's no good for newcomers.

Maybe we could have community board and card game parties, with potluck meal, open to anyone who wants to attend? Our family would be all over that, as would at least a few other families we know.

Guy that owned a business on Madison, fell in love with the idea for a market.

Knows it will be tough, but closed on Madison, bad for Lakewood/Madison.
Would love to see LEAF get the building, would be perfect for them.

He is about 3 months behind.
