While not really Lakewood related, Observer, Inc. a Lakewood based company formed
a tight relationship with Lois Moss and Walk & Roll. Observer, Inc. has been a corporate
supporter of Walk & Roll around Northern Ohio, as we have projects in many of the
communities, and appreciate what Lois and Walk and Roll is all about.

Saturday July 18
Walk+Roll Old Brooklyn / Brooklyn Centre: Old Brooklyn Community Development Corp
is bringing bicycling and walking to the All Access Home and Bicycle Tour this year.
The event will not involve a street closing, but it will include free bicycle tours,
walking tours, trolley tours, local businesses, historic homes and cemeteries in one
of Cleveland's most interesting neighborhoods. More info for July 18

Saturday July 25 ‚
Walk+Roll Detroit Shoreway / Gordon Square: Nearly three miles of streets and paths
will be part of this event which showcases one of Cleveland's transformative neighborhoods. Walk+Roll is partnering with Detroit Shoreway Community

Sunday July 26
Walk+Roll Slavic Village / Broadway: This is the most ambitious Walk+Roll to date!
Nearly eight miles of streets and paths will be used for this route which will include
two Cleveland Metroparks, an inner-city golf course, a waterfall and history center, numerous new commercial and residential projects, public art projects, Cleveland Botanical Garden’s community garden, bicycle polo, skateboard lessons, youth
concerts and many historic churches. More info for July 26

OK Lakewood cyclists it's time to answer the call. For years Lois Moss has tirelessly supported all things cycling here in Northeast Ohio. Trust me on that. Plus, I love Walk+Roll (do I hear Joan Jett?), Lois and her partners put together great events.

So here's what's up. I'll form a group (large or small) to head out to the Old Brooklyn Walk+Roll on Saturday, July 18th. If we meet at the Madison Library, according to Mapquest from there it's slightly less than six miles to the the "All Access" Old Brooklyn event meet-up. There's an “advanced/extended” bike tour of the unique Old Brooklyn sites starting at 11:30 (to 1:00) so I think we should leave at 10:30 SHARP. It will be slow going with all the traffic lights, and I wanna go pretty slow in street clothes and not break a sweat. Plus I'm almost 55 (huff, puff). The route is pretty straightforward and I will ride it myself early next week to become familiar. Much of it traverses Denison which I have not biked before, but I presume it will be OK. If there is a great breakfast place on the route maybe we can leave earlier and enjoy....

FYI my street cycling cred includes commuting to work and back on Rocky River Drive, Brookpark and Engle for the last four years. I can handle myself and direct you too even if you are somewhat timid. We'll ride on the street. I'll ride in back and outside. You must wear a helmet and we obey all traffic laws. No earbuds.

Lois's 07/18 Old Brooklyn W+R itinerary calls for an “advanced/extended” bike tour from 11:30 to 1:00. After that, I am not so sure of what transpires but we can play it by ear. I will plan on leaving when the festivities are mostly over, with whoever stays. If you want to leave right away that's fine, your call.

Lakewood's StreetWalk event runs the same day (07/18) from 3:00 to 8:00, if you are interested in attending after we return from Old Brooklyn.

The other Walk+Rolls the following weekend (July 25-26), we can think about that too. I would love to ride the new Slavic Village rail trail but it is a bit of a bike hike from Lakewood. I'll do it if you will. On the other hand Detroit-Shoreway is close by and easy for Lakewood cyclists, seems like a no brainer. I've done that route a hundred times and fortunately I have that weekend open also and will help however I can.

So Lakewood cyclists let's use this thread to discuss and refine our plans. I am available to lead rides to all three events. Wanna join me? Good. Post here.

It includes NE Ohio's largest Community Garden, numerous historic sites, plus our proximity to parks, schools, health care, transportation and downtown. Respond via this thread or PM me, either way.

Thanks for taking the initiative, Tim. I'll try to join you for the trip to Old Brooklyn.

Lois tells me councilman Brian Cummins helped connect her concept to the Old Brooklyn house tours. The SOP for getting around that tour was Lolly the Trolly, but Cummins realized bikes are a great fit for that kind of neighborhood tour. You keep to your own schedule rather than waiting for a bus; you don't have to worry about where you'll park at each stop.
