An important cause that obviously hits pretty close to home for me, and many families here in Lakewood and Cleveland.

While donating to one of many charities that offer support and aid to refugee camps in broken areas all over the globe is up to you, I can say that getting educated on the issue of displaced persons and refugees is a great, free way to help. Spreading the message of hope, equality and opportunity can go a long way, and hopefully more people will recognize the importance of supporting charities and organizations that help displaced families and individuals all over the globe.

One of the best ways to help local families is to talk to them. If you have neighbors that are refugees, step out of your comfort zone and strike a conversation. Most families have no one here and would greatly benefit from interaction and understanding.

This happened to my family when we bought our home. We were approached by neighbors like the Cooper family, who we still consider dear friends in Lakewood. Justine's son, Nick, even did a report on our story, and we all learned something from each other.

Sometimes, money can only do so much.

There are a couple of Albanian families in my building. I've helped one family with a disability claim and I really enjoy the exchanges I have with people from different countries.

My problem is that I talk too fast and have to remember to slow it down when speaking with new english speakers.
