This is my first installment of what has happened in the world since 1939, Rozi's founding year.

1939 –First NCAA basketball tournament. In baseball, the Hall of Fame opens, Lou Gehrig retires due to a terminal illness, and Little League Baseball, today the world's largest youth sports organization, is formed. The film Gone With The Wind is released. New York Knights' elder rookie Roy Hobbs spends about half the season sitting on the bench; once he gets into the line-up, Hobbs hits home run after home run. (New York - The Natural). Sunday 26th November: Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock) is born. (Brownsville, Tennessee - What's Love Got to Do with It). September 4, 1939 - France and Great Britain declare war on Germany.

1940
-The film 'The Dark Jungle' is released in cinemas, covering the Confederate expansion of America in the early 20th century. (C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America)
-The Egytian Mau, a sacred cat breed, imported into the US. (USA - Catwoman)
-Four children travel through a wardrobe and discover Narnia. (England - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe)
-An insurance investigator and an efficiency expert are hypnotised into a jewel heist. (The Curse of the Jade Scorpion)
-Tom Hagen marries Theresa; Frank Corleone and Frank Hagen born. (The Godfather)
-The Nazis pour a smelt of 600 gold bars, on one of which is engraved 7194. The entire smelt would end up on the bottom of Lake Toplitz. (Essen, Germany - Goldfinger)
-1940 in sports – Seabiscuit becomes the top money-earner in horse racing of all time
-June 4, 1940 - The British evaccuate over 300,000 soldiers from Dunkirk, France back accross the English Channel.
-June 22, 1940 - France surrenders to Germany.
-October 16, 1940 - Benjamin Davis becomes the first black General in the United States Army.

1941 -
-New York Yankees win the World Series, beating Brooklyn Dodgers by 4 games to 1
-Ted Williams records a season batting average of .406; it is the last time any major leaguer will hit over .400
-Joe DiMaggio's 56–game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16)
-Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year – Joe DiMaggio, Major League Baseball
-Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year – Betty Hicks Newell, golf
- January 20, 1941 - Franklin Roosevelt is sworn in as President for a 3rd term.
- January 20, 1941 - Henry Wallace is sworn in as Vice President for a 3rd term.
- June 22, 1941 - Germany invades the Soviet Union.
- December 7, 1941 - Japanese forces attack the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
- December 8, 1941 - The United States declares war on Japan.
- December 11, 1941 - Germany and Italy declare war on the United States.

-Ohio State Buckeyes and Wisconsin Badgers share the NCAA National Championship.
-January 15 – President Franklin D. Roosevelt gives baseball the go-ahead to play despite World War II. FDR encourages more night baseball so that war workers may attend. The Cubs, who had signed contracts to install lights at Wrigley Field, drop their plans because of the military need for the material. There will be no lights at Wrigley for 46 more years.

-With the Nazis on the run, an entire smelt of gold bars ends up on the bottom of Lake Toplitz. Bar 7194 would be recovered by the British government and, years later, used as bait in a game of golf between a wealthy jeweler and a certain British spy.
