Save Kauffman Park

I received the message below via e-mail this morning. Does anyone know who is organizing this effort?

Dear Friends of Green / Park Land in Lakewood,

I would like to inform you all about the plan by the City of Lakewood to Sell the Kauffman Park to private developers. The attached file / picture is the proposal to convert open space into a large parking lot.

I would like to request all who are concerned about Green / Open space in the City to OPPOSE THIS NEW PLAN.

There inclusion of medical facility is a plan to get this approved for a broader agenda to develop larger drugmart and retail space. Don't be fooled by this proposal. Look at how much space is devoted to asphalt and parking lot.

Lakewood has enough empty office space to accommodate multiple medical facilities in the downtown area.

Lets form a group to resist these plans by Drugmart and the Mayor, City Council and Planning Director to sell our precious land for parking lot.

Thanks,

I didn't see any typos, so it can't be Jim O'B.

"There" should be "Their"...

I am just glad that I finally started spelling KauFFman correctly

To be honest, I'm kind of annoyed by the e-mail. I would love to find the group or organization that sold my email address to this person/group so I can report them to the FTC for violating privacy laws.

Oh and to whomever sent this mailing, you better hope I don't find out who you are because you are in violation of CAN SPAM act laws which require you to provide a physical mailing address and opt-out process in each unsolicited e-mail you send. The FTC has the right to fine you $10,000 per e-mail sent in violation.

I've also reported the sender, savekauffmanpark@gmail.com, to Gmail for spamming.

I don't like spam if you couldn't tell.

I got the message, too, and was also curious as to the sender.

And, wow, Bryan. While I'm, as I said, curious about who sent it, I can't say I'm that upset about it. It's a legit local cause, not someone trying to get your bank account number to get that Nigerian gold or something. It's probably someone you/we have met in real life and who would be happy to stop emailing if asked.

I also received it, and wondered from whence it came. I don't really have a problem with it, but I didn't find it especially helpful or informative.

The site plan looked a bit different than the one released in 2007. Baseball field moved to east; park moved from rear of property to on Detroit; medical office building on parking garage where park is.

Then if they're such an upstanding person I would have met in real life, I would have expected them to have the decency to identify themselves in the e-mail to allow me to not only ask them to stop but also to find out how and where they got my e-mail address in the first place since I never signed up on a list to receive unsolicited political action e-mails on random topics.

Fact remains, legimiate issue or not, there is no excuse for violating the privacy of people.

After the Kauffman Park redevelopment plan was floated a few years ago, a post indicated that Giltz (did I spell that right?) was delinquent on their property taxes for the plaza.

Has the developer paid their tax and can they in the future?

I was wondering who sent it also.

I don't really rally around people who don't sign there name.

Is this the same contractor that our new mayor was going on about making a contribution to Tom George's campaign?

Are we smelling sardines here folks?

Well this would seem like and easy one.

Who/Which Group has the most to gain by derailing all real talk about Kaufman Park?

Who/Which Group has consistently talked about this plan, even when the city, the
hospital and private investment groups said it is dead in the water?

What could possibly be going on in this city, that would even make a person think this
is worthwhile to do.

City? Nope, they have been 100% open about Kaufman Park.

Library? Nope, they have no interest.

Developer? Nope, no money for the project?

Owner of Drug Mart? Nope, claims any plan is on hold waiting for a much better
economic climate.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Who wants to take Kaufamn off the table?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Which person/group hides their real names, and works in secrecy?

Pitiful, just pitiful.

OK, I give up. Which group?
