Lakewood is looking good!

Having been out of Lakewood for a while on a special project, I was delighted to come back and see how great the city looked. Sometimes, when you are in it day to day you don't appreciate the things that are being done.

I was expecting to see tons of empty store fronts with the news of the economy and I didn't see any more than were there before I left. The city has done a great job of adding new tenants.

We ate at many of Lakewood's fine dining establishments, some old and some new.

Old Favorites:
The Place to Be
Borderline
Indian Gardens
Dave's Cosmic Subs

New places:
Deweys
56

All were wonderful. I thought the new places looked great and really fit into Lakewood.
I was happy to see 5 Guys coming to Lskeoof.. I loved how they covered the windows. That was a great touch. Made it look nice while they renovated.

The planters additionally were very nice on Detroit. Much better than the window baskets. Got to see the big trash cans too. Heard mixed comments on that. Didn't see the trash collection in operation however.

Was great to see so many wonderful friends. Wish we could have visited with more. We did get to go on a walk in support of the Gathering Place to honor a Lakewood friend who lost her bout with cancer.

Best regards.

Oh, Lynn!

We had to stop and gawk at the new trash pick-up. I don't think I'm finished gawking.

I feel like I just got to the big city to see skyscrapers an' everything. Golly.

If you are around, you MUST watch this process.

Or maybe I'm easily amused/distracted.

Hope you had a chance to see my favorite trash bin in front of Vance Music. It's the one with the fish and I like how the art utilized the composition of the bins. It turns out that I like the most colorful designs the best.

It's a start.

Savannah sent me pictures of almost all of the recycle bins the day they were shown. Really cool idea.

I like the fish - I also like the Dali style one - I even liked the black and white ones. The only thing I am a little concerned about is it wasn't clear that these were just for recycling and I thought people might throw trash in them not realizing that they were meant for recycling.

I was wondering if the trash bins were turned sideways does the arm have problems picking them up? I too would have enjoyed watching them.

I was fascinated to see how the little arm comes out and springs open to get the can. It lifts it up and dumps it, then sets it back down. The can we were watching came back to the ground with its lid open, so the operators lifted it and tipped it again to try to get the lid to swing shut. No deal. They put the can down and a human got out of the truck to close the lid.

I've been hoping to catch one in the act. Cars always park in front of mine, and I'm curious as to how they deal with that.
