Beck Center Emergency Need For Funding!

To throw a party for Dr. David Estrop, who assured us "there is nothing
in Lakewood for me." (to paraphrase one of his comments in the press)

Wouldn't the Beck be better off spending the emergency funding on
needed things around the Beck?

Or at least a party for the new Superintendent that left retirement in
California to come back to the city he loves, cares about and sees nothing
but a great future in?

This is like bailing out AIG so that they can spend money on retreats and
bonuses for the people that bankrupted the company!

Just curious?

There's going to be a cash bar. It may end up being a moneymaker for them. How much could it possibly be costing them to have a two-hour 'open house'?

They have a liquor license?

Yes, a D5 (Spirituous liquor for on premises consumption only, beer and wine for on premises, or off premises in original sealed containers, until 2:30am.) and a D6 (Sale of intoxicating liquor on Sunday between the hours 1:00pm and midnight.)

Isn't it nice to live in the 21st century where you can look up the answer to almost any question and look like a genius?

Jim, once again you have stated an opinion without full knowledge of the facts. The Beck Center is not paying for a party for Dave Estrop. The "party" (farewell reception) is hosted by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and we are providing our lobby. (And by the way, we're providing a cash bar, and we do have a liquor license.) Please look elsewhere if you are looking for a scandal.

Cindy opinions, are often based on misinformation. That is one of many reasons
we constructed the Lakewood Observer and the Observation Deck so
that these misconceptions and opinions can be cleared up.

Thanks for stepping in and correcting a misconception. Always appreciate your
hard work and effort. Perhaps you should call the Sun Papers as they reported
that the Beck Center was hosting the party not the Chamber.

By Sun News
Beck Center for the Arts, 17801 Detroit Ave., will host a farewell open house to honor David Estrop...

My issues is not the cash bar, nor the liquor license, I see both as tremendous
additions to the Beck Center. But the possible use of money that was needed
desperately to keep the Beck open, for a goodbye to a person that has repeatedly
marginalized the city of Lakewood and some elected officials.

I also wonder IF Dave Estrop ever got a satisfactory review from the School Board.
I always wonder why one board member voted NO so loudly to the contract exentension
and why the Board demanded a letter of resignation at the time of the contract.
So while many of us are happy to see Dave move on to his new career, it always
makes me wonder why the parties for Dave instead of the welcome home for Joe?

Again thank you for the clarification, and hope for nothing but success from your cash
bar and for the Beck Center.

The Sun Post didn't refer to the Beck Center as AIG - you did. That's a poisonous, hurtful statement, and we don't deserve it.

Cindy

I grabbed this quote as to make sure that it stays with my comments.

You are very correct.

If the Beck Center is not paying the bill, then the comparison would be wrong.
But I am sure you can understand, that many like myself would indeed wonder
about if it is correct, or merely a mistake by the Sun Papers.

You know it is odd, I search for the answers looking down the road at the next time
you need funding, and to clarify the misconceptions now. I am not spreading rumors
out of the light of day, not working the phones, not standing at the backyard fences.

As we both know, the Beck needs the full support of the city, and the region. I believe
the support is well earned,
which is why I was alarmed at the thought of the misuse
of public funding in a downward spiraling economy.

Again I would like to thank you for the quick clarification on something that came
to my attention, and the attention of others.

I do hope you make money on the party, and increase every form of support and
attendance that the Beck, you and your staff deserve.
