Last night, my fellow school board members and I had the distinguished honor of listening to Library Director Kenneth Warren make a presentation to the Lakewood City School District Board of Education and giving Mr. Warren the following proclamation:

Whereas: Mr. Kenneth Warren Has Served With Distinction as the Director of the Lakewood Public Library in Lakewood, Ohio from 1984 to 2009; and

Whereas: Mr. Warren has positively influenced the Community of Lakewood through his Leadership in extending the public library tradition to diverse communities and constituencies as well as his active participation in a variety of local civic and service organizations; and

Whereas: Mr. Warren has been at the forefront of providing learning opportunities such as the Princeton Review to Lakewood Youth; and

Whereas: Lakewood Students have directly benefited from Mr. Warren’s belief in the importance of collaboration between the schools and the library shown through the support of student research through Pathfinders, the Brown Bag Book Club, the Summer Reading Program and other joint projects; and

Whereas: Mr. Warren has been willing to invest both personal and professional resources in cooperative efforts such as the Lakewood Cares Coalition and the Welcome Center; and

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools does hereby Commend and Congratulate Mr. Kenneth Warren on his tremendous Service and Leadership for the Community of Lakewood on this 1st day of June, 2009.

Mr. Warren, for all you have done for Lakewood and our children, thank you.

As I have said, everything good in Lakewood has come through Ken's office. Everything
that has failed, either never went through, or the group ignored his comments and vision.

There is no one sharper, no one better at critical thinking than Ken.

I wonder what the city will be like without him.

You know with all the love and respect, and what he has done for the city, makes
me wonder why he resigned, or more importantly how the Library Board, every
let him get away!

I have sat in his office for years, and watch him throw away offers for jobs in
bigger cities, for much more money. Always speaking of his love for the Lakewood
Library, and the city he called home for many years.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, makes me wonder.

I see from reading page 6 of the most recent edition of The Lakewood Observer, that there will be:

A Retirement Celebration
for Director Ken Warren

Wed., June 24th, 2009
7:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Sullivan’s Irish Pub
13368 Madison Ave.
(216) 529-8969

The event is free and open to the public
with a cash bar. Everyone is welcome to
share a story about or a thank you to Ken
Warren during Open Mike from 7-8 p.m.
Join Ken Warren and local musicians and
friends from 8-10 p.m. for music and fun.
Join us for a festive evening highlighting
Ken’s 25 years of dedication to the entire
Lakewood community.

This is a celebration which I will certainly be in attendance! And I look forward to a summer filled with attending many more such celebrations of Mr. Warren's dedication to the City of Lakewood which will no doubt be held by the Beck Center for the Arts, LakewoodAlive, The Lakewood Hospital, The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and many, many more civic organizations! Fun, fun, fun!

I cannot wait to see and hear The Lakewood Observer Band cover Kool & The Gang!

Enjoy the accolades, Mr. Warren. You certainly deserve them and much, much more.

Again, thank you Mr. Warren!

He's done an outstanding job for such a long time. I wonder why he's resigning as well.

Why is the Library Board letting him go? For all he's done for the Library and City, you'd think he'd be the Director until...
