Is The Door To An Urban Future Closing Before It Opens?

Some have hoped that rising energy prices and turmoil in the housing market would lead to renewal of the innner ring suburb and urban living. I always thought that was unlikely because the federal government would provide whatever resources were necesssary to subusidize the exurbs.
