The taxes on Cigarettes recently went up. Nicotine is a drug many people enjoy.
Here is a list of some of the taxes on alcohol and nicotine products

Maybe there are more taxes applied at different stages of the stationery. they are called "sin taxes" some times.
Caffeine would be a great drug to tax. Coffee is a very good drug. We could have import duties on coffee. and a resale tax on coffee.

I just quit... a whopping 5 days "clean" don't take away my coffee!!

I guess all smokers are making over 250k? Otherwise they would not have seen an increase in any of their taxes.

Wasn't the last tax increase to pay for the arts that are now failing?

I've always been perplexed by sin taxes. On one hand they say these things are bad for you but on the other hand they say we are going to tax these items to pay for the arts and children's healthcare. So in essence the government says please keep doing these unhealthy activities we need the revenue.

Corn production is highly subsidized in america's agriculture. the subsidies are summarized in the documentary "King Corn". although it is much more difficult to make a living as a farmer today, we do have very much more corn.
A nickel tax on food stuffs with corn syrup added would raise government revenues. perhaps more even than the subsidies for corn.
Corn enables our fast food nation. a nickel tax on fast food sandwiches/burritoes/tacos/fajitas,mcnuggets/"wings"/etc would reduce the deficits. let us re-establish traditional american excise taxes.
It could take decades for the lawyers to define what sandwiches/burritoes/tacos/fajitas/mcnuggets/"wings" are. that is what lawyers do.
I'd like a 32 oz Coke, double whopper, and biggie fries with that!
