The goal in track and field Pole Vaulting is to clear the greatest height possible.
Originally, pole vaulting developed as a way for people to cross streams without getting their feet wet. When bridges were not available.
I would like to see some kind of Long Vault competition. I am also a fan of the standing long jump.

the broad jump involved seeing how many women a competitor could jump over. the landing was softer than than the sawdust typically used back then.
the standing long jump was one of the first events removed when the modern Olympics were restarted. It is kind of a boring event to watch. there is no exciting build up, the end results are not spectacular.
I move to create the new Short Long Jump. The competitor gets a 10 feet running start.

I don't know what this country is coming to when you can't call a broad jump a broad jump.
