I work downtown. there are many offices downtown.

I haven't seen an office supplies retailer there yet.

The closest i have seen are the stationary sections of CVS Pharmacy stores.
There are quite a few CVS Pharmacy Stores Downtown.

....I could take the rapid to W.117th and walk to the big box stores they have near there.

the hypothetical free market meets the downtown demand for sandwiches, boutique-quality coffee, cigarettes, and potato chips. I am still looking for a decent stationary and office supplies store there.

People need/want sandwiches, good coffee, cigarettes, and potato chips every day. People don’t need/want new pens every day.

Though I would think with all the businesses downtown there could be a warehouse distribution point somewhere. Deliveries could be made with Lakewood’s second hand Cushman’s rather than big trucks.

Try FedEx Kinko’s on E9th and Chester. It’s not a Staples or Office Max but it might work for you.

several

there are several flower shops. a few barbers and hair salons.
a handful of places that sell custom suits, tailored dresses, etc. they aren't terribly ritzy suits, dresses, or blazers.

I'd like to be able to buy a stapler that won't break a few weeks later downtown.

I think most companies would rather buy from a supplier who has lower prices, better inventory, and who will deliver right to their office, than send a worker away from his job to try and find supplies.

Of course, if you feel that there is a market for a downtown office supply store, you would certainly be free to start one. Maybe you could even get some government money to bail you out if you fail!

There is a Kinko's in the bottom floor of the AmTrust Building - E 9th and Superior.

It's not just a copy center. It's got office supply stuff. Check it out.

Yeah, the Kinko's was where I always went when I needed just one or two items and didn't want to put in a Staples order.

But really, most offices just order supplies in bulk and have it shipped to them. Office supply companies like Staples often offer free shipping on orders over a certain size, so where's the profit motive in having to pay downtown prices for a big storeroom full of pens and stickynotes?

ok

I don't know.

is every business downtown large enough to contract with a bulk supplier? what about all the people who live in apartments there? and business travelers?

Maybe there is something by CSU. I'll keep an eye out next time i'm around there.
