Ninety-one percent (91%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin, including 65% who say their view is Very Favorable. Only eight percent (8%) have an unfavorable view of her, including three percent (3%) Very Unfavorable
Republicans are closely divided over the two most important issues in the next presidential election: 31% say economic issues, 30% say national security. Fifteen percent (15%) list fiscal issues, followed by cultural issues (12%) and domestic issues (6%). Five percent (5%) are undecided. Palin is overwhelmingly the top choice for 2012 among voters in all these categories.

What about the GOPers who didn't vote for McCain?

Bush received 62,000,000 votes in 2004 and McCain received 57,000,000 in 2008. I would guess that McCain lost indepenedent voters and a small number of Republicans in 2008...

When 31 percent of your own voters don't like you, you've got trouble.
I have no doubt that a significant portion of the knuckle-dragging right loves Caribou Barbie. I'm sure she's going to run in 2012. Given the pathetic group of potential Republican candidates, I'm sure she'll win a few primaries.
However, I suspect Mitt Romney will be the 2012 nonimee.....that would be bad news for Obama, since Romney can morph back into his Massachusetts past to make himself palatable to independents.

I have a Republican neighbor that voted Obama because he thought McCain's choice of Palin was totally irresponsible.
I was shocked when he told me. We argue politics all the time. He's a great guy, and a lot of fun, but quite serious about his loyalty to the GOP.
He's not the only one I've heard about party jumping because of the V.P. pick.
My data sample is small, but I think there is some anecdotal evidence that McCain's choice hurt his campaign.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republican voters say Alaska Governor Sarah Palin helped John McCain’s bid for the presidency, even as news reports surface that some McCain staffers think she was a liability.
Ninety-one percent (91%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin, including 65% who say their view is Very Favorable. Only eight percent (8%) have an unfavorable view of her, including three percent (3%) Very Unfavorable.
