What, if any, relevance does a 40-year-old car accident have today? This is a pretty sad and sleazy thing to drag out a week before the election.

there are plenty of better reasons to not vote for McCain than a 1964 car crash.

The relevance is the very real possibility that someone died as a result of the accident, and that it was covered up.

A cover up? Is that not one of the staples of government?

As Steven alluded to, if you're willing to judge Ted Kennedy's entire life and career on Chappaquiddick, then I suppose to you this 44-year-old incident may have some relevance. I don't see how any revelation about this incident would shed any light on Sen. McCain's ability (or lack thereof) to govern responsibly. And I've never even once considered voting for the guy.
