Well, we disagree, shocker.

We can argue all day long about who screwed us. The fact of the matter is that the repubs had the man in the captains chair of the sinking ship. That is why i think the dems had the thing rapped up before it started.

Your anology is flawed.... when the dems stopped the Fannie and Freddie hearings, they took control of the ship...

Stephen, I think you are thinking to narrow minded. fran and fred was just one iceburg in an eight year long string of hitting iceburgs. The fact of the matter is that if we would have had better regulation in the first place we would not need fran and fred hearings. That is not too take all the blame off dems. Bur the whole system was bunked from the get go.

If the dems would have held the office for the last eight years (and the country went to hell in a bucket like it has) I would be saying the same thing about them.

So let me get this straight. When the Republicans owned BOTH sides of Congress, the White House and much of the judiciary they STILL couldn't stop the Democrats from destroying the country? Really? So are Democrats just that good at getting things done/not done or were the Republicans simply incapable of leading, even when they had the majority?

All the sloganeering in the world doesn't change the fact that the Republicans have owned this country since 2008 as the majority party for the majority of the time in the majority of elected positions. They can blame the minority party all they want but it doesn't do anything to bolster confidence in them, does it?

Sorry (stupid lack of Edit feature) but the Republicans have owned this country since 2000. Not 2008, though they are REALLY trying hard to continue that ownership.

I predict that Republicans will conveniently forget all the strident calls to stand loyally behind the President during times of crisis, even if you disagree with him politically.

I predict that Republicans will conveniently forget all they responded to complaints about election fraud with "get over it".

But mostly, I predict that Republicans will conveniently forget that their special election date is Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Slightly Smaller Link ;-)

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

The bill didn't become law for one simple reason. The democrats opposed it on a party line vote in the committee. Because of democratic opposition, Republicans couldn't even get the Senate to vote on the matter.
