Detroit car manufacturers get $25 Billion in loans to update plants and to make cars which run on electricity.
I think this is a great first step to independence from oil and building cars that run with higher gas mileage, etc.
Plus, it's injecting the failing automotive industry with some hope that congress is committed to helping the industry in advancing technology through funds.
Just wanted to share. It's being pushed to the side of a lot of news broadcasts by the news of the other stuff going on.

good news
that is good news for some people.
Are there any American manufacturers of commodity grade or semi-decent bicycles? It isn't quite high technology. assembly lines should be able to pay thousands of workers between 8 and 12 dollars an hour to crank out parts and ship them to retailers in kits. the machinists and middle managers would obviously also be paid more than 8 to 12 dollars an hour. all of the bikes i've encountered were made in korea, china, or taiwan.
I've gone through 3 can openers in the last year. they keep breaking. I bought a wrench set that was guaged completely wrong, a socket wrench set with a broken ratchet, an air pump that didn't work right out of the box. the wrenches tend to warp out of shape with a few uses. it was all made in east asia. this is all stuff that should be able to be made here.

And some of those Ford's that get great gas mileage seat 7. I would love to be able to drive a car that would fit my entire family that got decent gas mileage but if I want one I'll have to move to Europe. So much for the US being innovative.
