Police search for Ashley Summers, 15, missing for nearly a year
Monday, June 16, 2008
A law enforcement task force, in conjunction with the Cleveland Police Department's 1st District Detective Bureau, is asking for help in finding a 15-year-old West Side girl who has been missing for nearly a year.
Police say Ashley Summers, who has been missing from her West 96th Street home, near Madison Avenue, since July 6, 2007, is considered an endangered juvenile. She was given that status because of her age and the length of time she has been missing, authorities said.
FBI spokesman Scott Wilson said there is no indication of foul play. He said authorities at first considered Ashley a runaway but now are concerned about her welfare. It's possible she's being held against her will, he said.
"If she is still in the area, someone might know," Wilson said.
The task force is working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Va., Wilson said.
Ashley is 5 feet 5, weighs 130 pounds and has blue eyes and brown hair. She has a tattoo of a heart on one of her arms with the name "Gene" inscribed on it.
Anyone with information regarding Ashley Summers is urged to call the Cleveland/Cuyahoga Fugitive/Gang Task Force at 216-522-1400 or the Cleveland Police 1st District at 216-623-5118.
Identity of callers will remain confidential. Reward money is available.
The task force consists of members of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Cleveland Police Department, Ohio Adult Parole Authority and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department.
