As usual. Sadly, the Democrats are their own worst enemy. That said, politics is all about "now." This will likely cease to be an issue is Obama wins the bid. McCain has been iffy with his Christian cred, only embracing it when he was told to do so by his Party elders. He made some tough statements about the evangelicals early in Bush's term and 4 years later he was keynote speaking at one of their more rigid universities. He won't bring it up. It is one area he clearly "flipflops" and a big one to the base of the party.

As much as the Democrats eat their own, this year will really revolve around economy and eventually the War (again). If we are in the same stalemate in Iraq this fall with no real movement towards self-government and troop withdrawal and ongoing deaths, Iraq defender McCain is going to have a rough row to hoe (his fun "10,000 years" until pull out isn't helpful). If the Economy doesn't take a big upturn by the Fall, the Republican candidate is going to have to answer for his predecessor's term. Either way, the Democrats should be able to win regardless of how much they tear into each other.

My hope is Bill Richardson for VP.

Now that he is really old McCain doesn't have to answer to party elders. He is pretty damn old. It may be our last chance to get a president who isn't a baby boomer.
