"Last year on March 31, Sydney, Australia, turned off its lights for an
hour. 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses turned off their lights
and reduced the city's energy consumption by more than 10 percent. The
equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road for an hour.
So this year, the world is planning Earth Hour, repeating what Sydney
did last year-- around the globe this year. On March 29 at 8pm local
time (so a nice rolling wave of darkness around the world), people are
going to turn off their lights for an hour."
